ABOUT THE ROLE

Cavco is seeking an experienced and strategic leader within the manufactured housing industry to oversee and direct overall plant operations. The General Manager is responsible for ensuring business objectives are achieved professionally, ethically, and in accordance with company policy and core values. The General Manager has a responsibility to influence core values by demonstrating them. Safety and Quality will be emphasized as priority over throughput and demonstrated in business planning through measurable annual results. Additionally, the General Manager is responsible for decisions which influence operational results including but not limited to profitability, plant direction, product mix and pricing. The General Manager has the management responsibility and authority for the total operation of an individual plant. He/she is accountable for results, development of KPIs, and continuous improvement. Relocation assistance may be offered for qualified candidates willing to relocate for the role.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The General Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, performance, and compliance of the plant. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Asset Protection & Controls
  • Ensure all company assets are properly safeguarded and that effective internal controls are established and maintained.
  • Quality Assurance
  • Ensure the plant consistently produces code-compliant, high-quality homes. Conduct periodic inspections of plant output to validate adherence to quality standards.
  • Business Planning & Execution
  • Collaborate with department heads to develop the annual business plan narrative. Ensure operations are aligned with and meet business plan objectives on a daily, weekly, monthly, and annual basis.
  • Regulatory Compliance
  • Maintain full compliance with all local, state, and federal laws and regulations, including those related to product construction, employee health and safety, and recordkeeping.
  • Team Leadership & Development
  • Ensure employees are competent and aligned with company core values. Conduct annual performance reviews for direct reports and administer compensation fairly and equitably based on performance.
  • Customer Engagement
  • Actively cultivate and maintain strong customer relationships. Regularly visit customers to ensure satisfaction and that company operating objectives are being met.
  • Legal & Risk Management
  • Coordinate with the Regional Vice President (RVP) and Cavco Compliance Department regarding any potential or actual legal matters, including service-related issues. Promptly report and forward any legal documents received for proper handling and recordkeeping.
  • Financial Performance & Accountability
  • Review monthly budget versus actual performance with department heads to ensure alignment and maximize profitability. Identify issues, implement corrective actions, and ensure appropriate follow-up.
  • Leadership & Culture
  • Guide, coach, and motivate team members to achieve business plan objectives. Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and high performance.
  • Process Improvement
  • Establish high expectations through strong processes across all areas of management. Focus on improving processes after addressing personnel changes.
  • P&L Management
  • Manage plant profit and loss performance to meet or exceed budget expectations. Understand and optimize the impact of product mix, pricing, and specifications on financial results.
  • Capital Planning
  • Collaborate with department heads to identify capital expenditure needs and develop supporting documentation for investments in systems, equipment, and processes that drive continuous improvement.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in the manufactured housing or related industry required.
  • Proven leadership and supervisory experience required.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and support multiple teams in consistently achieving production goals.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, including the ability to support, motivate, and develop team members. Must demonstrate empathy, openness to feedback, and willingness to both provide and receive direction.
  • Demonstrated capability to coach and develop people leaders, including functional managers, with a focus on building their ability to lead, coach, and develop their own teams.
  • Ability to successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
