Job description

Job Title: General Laborer

Job Description

This role involves physically demanding work in a production and warehouse environment, where you handle heavy bags of product, operate material handling equipment, and support daily operations. You will work in confined spaces and at heights, perform repetitive motions throughout your shift, and apply basic math to ensure accurate order fulfillment. Over time, you will cross-train on bag filling and sealing equipment and learn to operate a sit-down forklift.

Responsibilities

  • Lift and remove 50-pound bags from a conveyor line throughout the shift, handling high daily volumes of product.
  • Palletize bags on 2x2 or 4x4 pallets according to specific order requirements and stacking patterns.
  • Perform continuous bending, twisting, and turning of the body while lifting and positioning bags.
  • Use a two-wheeler to move and position pallets in the warehouse based on shipment order and staging needs.
  • Apply simple math, including addition, subtraction, and multiplication, to verify that the correct quantities are prepared and shipped for each order.
  • Work comfortably in confined spaces and at heights as required by production and warehouse tasks.
  • Cross-train and assist in bag filler and sealer roles, ensuring bags are properly filled, sealed, and prepared for palletizing.
  • Operate a sit-down forklift once fully trained and acclimated to the position to move pallets and materials safely within the facility.
  • Follow all safety procedures and guidelines while handling heavy materials, working around equipment, and operating in an open warehouse environment.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area to support efficient operations and safe working conditions.

Essential Skills

  • Ability to work comfortably in confined spaces and at heights.
  • Capability to repeatedly lift and handle 50-pound bags over the course of a shift.
  • Willingness and physical ability to perform continuous bending, twisting, and turning.
  • Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, and multiplication, to verify order quantities.
  • Self-motivated work style with the ability to stay productive and focused with minimal supervision.
  • At least 6 months of manufacturing or farming experience.
  • Comfort working in an open warehouse environment with varying temperatures and the smell of animal feed.
  • Willingness to learn and operate a sit-down forklift after training.
  • Experience in heavy lifting, production, general labor, construction, or farm work.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Former feed mill experience is a plus.
  • Previous warehouse or general labor experience is beneficial.
  • Experience in roles such as farm hand, construction laborer, or similar physically demanding positions is advantageous.
  • Openness to cross-training on bag filling and sealing equipment.
  • Interest in developing material handling and forklift operation skills.

Why Work Here?

You will join a workplace that offers clear opportunities for long-term career growth through advancement and skill development. The organization actively reviews and adjusts pay to remain competitive in the market and demonstrates its commitment by providing a pay raise after 60 days. You can expect a stable environment where hard work and reliability are recognized, and where training is provided to help you expand your capabilities and progress in your career.

Work Environment

You will work in an open warehouse environment that houses animal feed products, which means there is a consistent feed-related odor throughout the facility. The space includes shipping bay doors, so temperatures can be colder in the winter and warmer in the summer in certain areas. The role involves regular exposure to production equipment, conveyor lines, pallets, and material handling tools such as two-wheelers and sit-down forklifts.
