Job description

Job Title: R&D Chemical TechnicianJob Description
The R&D Chemical Technician supports suppression testing and critical safety and compliance programs within a research and development fire laboratory. This role combines hands-on technical fire lab support with environmental, health, and safety (EHS) responsibilities, including hazardous materials handling and regulatory compliance. You set up and run tests in a pilot facility, conduct fire suppression tests from start to finish following strict procedures, and ensure accurate, real-time data collection using a tablet-based system.
Responsibilities
  • Set up test equipment and prepare the pilot facility for fire suppression tests in accordance with established procedures.
  • Execute fire suppression tests from start to finish, strictly following standard operating procedures and test protocols.
  • Handle hazardous and non-hazardous chemicals safely, including preparation, transfer, and disposal in line with EHS guidelines.
  • Ensure real-time, accurate data collection during tests using a tablet-based data acquisition system.
  • Maintain detailed and organized test records to support safety, compliance, and product development activities.
  • Support critical safety and regulatory compliance programs within the R&D fire lab, including adherence to GMP and other manufacturing process standards as applicable.
  • Follow all safety policies, SDS guidance, and lab procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Assist in general lab and pilot facility upkeep, including equipment checks and basic maintenance related to testing activities.
  • Collaborate with team members to support the development and testing of new fire suppression products.
  • Participate in cross-training opportunities to expand skills across lab operations, EHS practices, and manufacturing processes.
Essential Skills
  • At least 1 year of chemical handling experience in a lab, manufacturing, or related environment.
  • Proven ability to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Experience working with safety data sheets (SDS) and applying chemical safety guidelines.
  • Hands-on experience in manufacturing or lab environments involving chemical processes.
  • Ability to operate and set up test equipment and systems in a pilot or laboratory facility.
  • Capability to collect and record data accurately using tablet-based or digital systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Firefighting certification is highly preferred.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience in GMP or other regulated manufacturing processes.
  • Background in chemical manufacturing or fire suppression products is beneficial.
  • Comfort working in an R&D environment that supports both development and production activities.
  • Willingness to be cross-trained across multiple lab and facility functions.
  • Interest in developing a long-term career in fire suppression technology and EHS-focused lab work.
Work Environment
This role is based in an R&D lab and pilot facility focused on the development and production of fire suppression chemicals. You work primarily on a day shift schedule in a hands-on, technical environment that involves chemical handling, test equipment setup, and participation in fire suppression testing. The facility is actively expanding and offers opportunities for growth and cross-training, allowing you to develop your skills across lab operations, safety programs, and manufacturing processes. The environment emphasizes safety, adherence to SOPs and SDS guidance, and collaboration to support new product development and ongoing production.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Green Bay, WI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $32.00/hr.
