Job Title: General Laboratory Supervisor – Molecular, Toxicology & Clinical Chemistry

Job Summary

Testgo is seeking an experienced General Laboratory Supervisor for Moderate complexity lab to oversee daily operations of the Molecular, Toxicology, and Clinical Chemistry laboratories. The supervisor will ensure accurate testing, maintain quality control programs, supervise laboratory staff, and ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards including Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments and College of American Pathologists.

Key Responsibilities

Laboratory Operations

  • Supervise daily operations of molecular diagnostics, toxicology, and clinical chemistry laboratory sections.
  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of patient specimens and diagnostic tests.
  • Monitor laboratory analyzers, instrumentation, calibration, and preventive maintenance.
  • Maintain laboratory workflow, productivity, and turnaround time standards.

Molecular Diagnostics

  • Oversee molecular testing procedures including nucleic acid extraction, amplification, and PCR-based assays.
  • Ensure proper validation and quality control of molecular diagnostic tests.
  • Monitor reagent preparation, sample handling, and contamination control procedures.

Toxicology Testing

  • Supervise toxicology testing including drug screening, confirmation testing, and specimen analysis.
  • Ensure compliance with laboratory testing standards and chain-of-custody procedures when applicable.
  • Monitor instrumentation used for toxicology testing and maintain proper calibration.

Clinical Chemistry

  • Oversee clinical chemistry testing including routine and specialized biochemical assays.
  • Ensure proper maintenance and calibration of chemistry analyzers.
  • Review and verify laboratory test results prior to reporting.

Staff Supervision

  • Supervise and mentor medical laboratory technologists, technicians, and support staff.
  • Develop work schedules and ensure proper staffing coverage.
  • Conduct staff training, competency assessments, and performance evaluations.
  • Promote professional development and continuing education.

Quality Assurance and Compliance

  • Implement and monitor laboratory quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) programs.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards including Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments and accreditation requirements from College of American Pathologists.
  • Participate in internal audits, laboratory inspections, and accreditation processes.
  • Investigate testing discrepancies and implement corrective actions.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Maintain laboratory documentation including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Ensure accurate documentation of laboratory testing procedures and results.
  • Prepare operational and quality performance reports for laboratory management.

Safety and Risk Management

  • Enforce laboratory safety policies and infection control procedures.
  • Ensure proper handling and disposal of biological and hazardous materials.
  • Maintain compliance with workplace health and safety regulations.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Molecular Biology, Biology, or a related field.

Certification

  • Certification such as MLS (ASCP) or equivalent from American Society for Clinical Pathology preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum 2-3 years of clinical laboratory experience.
  • Experience in molecular diagnostics, toxicology, or clinical chemistry preferred.
  • At least 2 years of supervisory or leadership experience in a laboratory environment preferred.
