Miller Titerle Law Corporation

Full-time

Job description

About The Role

We are a group of forward-thinking professionals committed to a more personal and passionate way of practicing law. Our high-growth business is recognized for its expertise and for rethinking the delivery of legal services. Life is short, and we spend a lot of time at work, which is why we think it's important to like where you work and the people you work with. We work hard to achieve the best results for our clients while maintaining our kick-ass culture. We welcome folks who don't necessarily fit the traditional law firm mold; we believe diverse personalities help create a richer, more experienced, and more exciting workplace.

We call our legal assistants "Practice Managers" to signal the elevated level of ownership they take in supporting the team's success. Our Practice Managers are deeply integrated into our legal files, helping to coordinate the bigger picture and support client care by participating in client meetings, transaction calls, and logistics planning with internal teams. Our Practice Managers have a full seat at the table, and we wouldn't have it (or survive) any other way.

This particular role will involve supporting certain lawyers in the Business Law and Transactions Group in our Victoria office. While the firm is generally supportive of hybrid remote work, some in-office needs come up from time to time that will require you to attend the office outside of your hybrid schedule.

About You

At MT+Co., we value folks who are curious, detail-oriented, driven, and supportive. We are interested in your experience as a professional and as a person. Want to learn more about what makes someone MT+Co. material? Find our values on our website.

Experience

Ideally, you are a graduate of a Legal Administrative Assistant program and have 3+ years of experience in corporate/commercial law. Experience in real estate law is considered an asset. Formal practice management or paralegal training (or an interest in pursuing either!) is also considered an asset.

A reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role is CAD$62,000 to $78,000 at the time of this posting. Within the range, individual pay is determined by factors such as market rates, job-related skills, relevant experience, and education and/or training. Please note that the range reflects the base pay only and does not include our competitive bonus program, 100% employer paid benefits and various other perks offered by the firm.

General Duties

While our firm is constantly evolving (and flexibility is key), as of right now the duties of this role generally include:

Legal + Deal Support

  • Draft legal documents based on precedents and client correspondence
  • Provide administrative support for business transactions and closing matters
  • Process routine corporate transactions, with paralegal support.
  • Conduct due diligence searches and prepare due diligence summaries
  • Prepare forms and liaises with the Finance Department regarding trust transactions
  • Draft documents in support of corporate and commercial transactions
  • Obtain registry searches and manage other due diligence matters
  • Prepare organizational charts
  • Prepare closing books and provides administrative support for closing matters
  • Meets with clients alongside lawyers for signing appointments
  • Manage key aspects of real estate transactions from initial due diligence through closing, including client signings, due diligence searches, financing documentation, lease drafting, and post-closing document administration
  • Experience with LTO, myLTSA, and other real estate software is an asset

General Admin

  • Email filling and organization
  • Revise documents based on lawyer markups
  • Document formatting and assembly, with some scanning/photocopying
  • Assist with the client intake process
  • Track and follow up on outstanding deliverables and client signatures
  • Attend to ad hoc client requests
  • Assist with day-to-day office duties in coordination with the operations team and other practice managers

Team Organization

  • Proactively think about and preparing "next steps" for the team
  • Hold the team accountable to following procedures
  • Create and help improve processes to streamline workflows
  • Help plan and execute marketing and business development initiatives
  • Source and implement tech solutions to better organize tasks and deadlines

We thank all applicants for their interest; however, only those selected for further consideration will be contacted.

Please note that this search is being managed internally, and we are not engaging external recruiters at this time.
