Position Summary
- Works closely with the Development Manager, CEO, Caritas Program Deputy Directors, Chief Financial Officer, and Chief Development Officer to identify service and program needs and develop an annual plan for submitting grant proposals from appropriate funding sources.
- Works with program staff to develop grant goals as well as reasonable outputs and outcomes.
- Compiles, writes, and edits monetary and in-kind grant and funding applications, in coordination with appropriate Caritas staff, exhibiting superior writing skills and a high-level command of grammar and spelling.
- Manages the process of supplying progress reports when required by a grant-making organization that has funded a project or program.
- Tracks and maintains grant reporting requirements as part of the grant implementation process and maintains an internal calendar of all grant reporting deadlines across the agency in collaboration with appropriate Program Deputy Directors and Chief Financial Officer.
- Maintains shared tracking sheet of all grants and contracts in individual portfolio so the Development Manager may report out grants progress to the Program Deputy Directors, Chief Financial Officer, CEO and Chief Development Officer on the first of every month.
- Attends weekly Strategist Team meetings.
- Alternates leading monthly Grants Orientations in tandem with the Development Orientation, a shared responsibility between all Strategists and the DDD.
- Develops and maintains effective working relationships with key funders and foundations.
- Tracks information on current and prospective funding sources, including funder guidelines, proposal and report deadlines and names of trustees, officers, and key decision makers.
- Responsible for pre-award and post-award administration of federal, state, and private grants.
- Identifies, researches, and develops federal, state and/or private grant funding sources and communicates those opportunities to appropriate leadership.
- Evaluates, and tracks federal, state, and local funding opportunities.
- Gather and maintain information on local, state, and national trends and statistics related to Caritas’ programs and mission.
- Maintains and analyzes background data on current and prospective grantors from various information sources including in-house records, publications, directories, online databases, and individuals.
- Completes grant files on all proposal submissions and outcomes via SharePoint and GrantHub.
- For proposals not funded, include reasons for denial and recommendations for future submissions.
- Ability to work on special projects at the discretion of the Chief Development Officer and CEO. These projects may include but are not limited to working on agency special events, housing voucher applications, government funding applications and responses and memorandum of understandings for organizational partnerships. Projects are delegated following approval of the Development Manager or CDO in the absence of the Development Manager to ensure equal division of work among Strategists.
- Attends annual official Caritas of Austin events, including but not limited to Songs of Hope and Turkey Trot.
- Participate in goal recommendations based on organizational need, economic influence, and philanthropic trends. Recommendations should be data based and not just a flat percentage increase.
- Participate in strategy for the growth of the organization and Grants Strategist Team.
- Focus on setting goals and strategy around foundation and government grants, providing data updates during the year for each goal.
- Partner with development staff to determine best strategies for effective stewardship of constituent groups. Collaborate with all grant strategist staff to ensure that stewardship of appropriate groups is being implemented as planned, which includes the recommendations to the Development Manager so they may execute the written stewardship plan and processes for tracking stewardship tasks and initiatives.
- Stays connected with grant-making organizations during their review of a submitted grant application in order to supply additional supportive material.
- Compiles and completes all reports to private foundations, government agencies, (city, county, state and federal) corporations, organizations, and the faith-based community.
- Manages the process of supplying progress reports when required by a grant-making organization that has funded a project or program.
- Oversees management of individual portfolio of philanthropic (private, corporate, and faith-based) organizations, and government grants (federal, state, and local funding opportunities).
- Works strongly as a team player so the Grants Strategist Team can function as a unit.
- Works in collaboration with the Development Data Analyst to create new acknowledgements around specific appeal and grant donations.
- Provides real time updates to tracking sheet, GrantHub, and the Development Manager so monthly Grants Reports can be provided to the Chief Development Officer, Development Manager and Board of Directors for their monthly meetings.
- In addition, assists in planning, development, and finalization of yearly projections.
- Sets individual goals for professional development.
- Required – Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Social Work, Public Health, Humanities, English, or related field.
- Required – Knowledge of fundraising principles and strategies.
- Preferred – Two to five years of experience in nonprofit sector.
- Preferred – Experience in government grant acquisition.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
- Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation required.
- Normal work hours and days assigned based on a work week of 40 hours.
- This position is designated as hybrid, combining remote and in-person work.
- This role requires flexibility to work occasional evenings, weekends and holidays in support of agency events. All staff participate in event activities as part of our team commitment. The annual Thundercloud Subs Turkey Trot is on Thanksgiving Day, and this position will be required to work this day.
- Base Salary Range: $55,000 - $60,000, with final offer based on education and experience
