Job description

ROLE OVERVIEW

The Semi Truck & Trailer Fleet Lead is a hands-on leadership role responsible for managing the day-to-day maintenance, servicing, and repair coordination of Be-Ver Farms’ fleet of semi trucks and trailers.

This individual will take ownership of the fleet’s overall condition, ensuring trucks and trailers are serviced, repaired, inspected, and ready to support year-round farm operations. Working closely with farm management, drivers, mechanics, equipment dealers, and outside service providers, the Fleet Lead will help minimize downtime and keep the fleet operating safely and efficiently.

The role is primarily focused on semi trucks and trailers, while also supporting the farm’s agricultural equipment maintenance and repair needs when required. During busy periods, this position may also assist with equipment operation, field work, and general farm duties to support the overall farm team.

The ideal candidate is mechanically minded, organized, proactive, and comfortable taking ownership of a fleet in a fast-paced agricultural environment.


CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Semi Truck & Trailer Fleet

  • Take primary responsibility for the maintenance and overall condition of Be-Ver Farms’ semi truck and trailer fleet.
  • Coordinate and complete preventative maintenance, servicing, inspections, and repairs on trucks and trailers.
  • Diagnose mechanical issues and determine repair requirements; complete repairs when capable or coordinate with qualified outside service providers.
  • Maintain service schedules and ensure trucks and trailers are ready for seeding, harvest, grain hauling, and other transportation needs.
  • Track equipment repairs, maintenance, inspections, and upcoming service requirements.
  • Coordinate with drivers to identify mechanical issues and ensure concerns are addressed promptly.
  • Work with truck dealerships, trailer suppliers, tire shops, parts suppliers, and other vendors to coordinate repairs and services.
  • Source and order truck, trailer, and equipment parts while maintaining accurate records.
  • Help manage tires, fluids, filters, shop supplies, and other fleet-related inventory.
  • Monitor fleet condition and identify potential issues before they result in costly downtime.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe truck and equipment shop environment.

Agricultural Equipment Support

  • Assist with maintenance and repairs on tractors, combines, tillage equipment, and other agricultural equipment as required.
  • Support the farm team with equipment servicing and repairs during peak seasons.
  • Assist with diagnosing mechanical issues and coordinate outside repairs when necessary.
  • Help ensure agricultural equipment is prepared and operational for seeding, spraying, harvest, and other field operations.

Farm Operations

  • Assist with equipment operation and field work when required.
  • Operate agricultural equipment safely and efficiently when needed to support the farm team.
  • Perform general farm labour and yard duties as required throughout the year.
  • Work collaboratively with farm management and other team members to keep daily operations running efficiently.
  • Support other farm projects and duties as directed by management.


QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Heavy-duty mechanic, agricultural mechanic, or related technical training is considered a strong asset.

Experience

  • Experience working with semi trucks, trailers, heavy-duty vehicles, or fleet maintenance is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with agricultural equipment maintenance is an asset.
  • Previous experience in a farm environment is considered an asset.
  • Experience coordinating repairs, ordering parts, and working with external service providers is preferred.

Skills & Abilities

  • Strong mechanical knowledge of semi trucks, trailers, and heavy-duty equipment.
  • Ability to diagnose mechanical issues and determine appropriate repairs.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple maintenance and repair priorities.
  • Ability to coordinate effectively with drivers, vendors, dealerships, suppliers, and farm management.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently while taking ownership of the fleet.
  • Strong attention to detail with maintenance, parts, and service records.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where priorities can change quickly.
  • Physically capable of performing hands-on mechanical and farm work in varying weather conditions.
  • Willingness to assist with equipment operation and general farm duties when required.
  • Valid driver's licence required.
  • A Class 1A driver's licence would be considered a strong asset.

Semi Truck & Trailer Fleet Uptime & Repair Response – 30%
The semi truck and trailer fleet is maintained in a safe, reliable, and operational condition, with mechanical issues identified and addressed quickly to minimize downtime during critical periods such as seeding, harvest, and grain hauling.


Preventative Maintenance & Fleet Readiness – 25%
Scheduled maintenance, inspections, servicing, and repairs are completed on time and properly documented, ensuring trucks and trailers are ready for year-round farm operations and reducing unexpected breakdowns.


Parts & Fleet Supply Management – 15%
Truck, trailer, and shop parts and supplies are accurately tracked, properly stocked, and proactively ordered to prevent critical shortages and minimize delays in completing repairs.


Repair Coordination & Cost Efficiency – 15%


Repairs are diagnosed accurately and completed efficiently, with outside service providers, dealerships, and suppliers coordinated effectively to control costs and minimize equipment downtime.


Shop Organization, Safety & Fleet Records – 10%
The shop is maintained in a clean, organized, and safe condition, with accurate records of fleet maintenance, repairs, inspections, parts, and upcoming service requirements.


Agricultural Equipment & Farm Operations Support – 5%
