Dynamics 365 Functional Solution Architect - Finance & Supply Chain

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Dynamics 365 Finance & Supply Chain Management (F&SCM) Functional Solution Architect to lead the functional design and delivery of Microsoft Dynamics 365 solutions for enterprise clients.

This is a client-facing leadership role for someone who can bridge business requirements and technology-working directly with stakeholders to understand their needs, shape scalable solutions, guide functional teams, and ensure successful delivery.

You will play a key role in solution design, requirements, process improvement, functional architecture, testing, and delivery leadership, while helping clients maximize the value of standard D365 capabilities and minimize unnecessary customization.

What You'll Do

Client & Solution Leadership

  • Serve as a trusted functional advisor to client stakeholders, product owners, business leaders, and project sponsors.
  • Lead discovery sessions, workshops, process reviews, backlog refinement, and solution-design discussions.
  • Recommend D365 F&SCM best practices, process improvements, and appropriate solution options.
  • Own the functional direction of the engagement and ensure solutions align with business objectives, scope, and long-term supportability.
  • Communicate decisions, risks, dependencies, scope impacts, and recommendations to both business and technical audiences.

Requirements & Functional Design

  • Gather, analyze, and translate business requirements into clear, actionable user stories and functional designs.
  • Define acceptance criteria, business rules, process flows, dependencies, assumptions, and priorities.
  • Lead fit-gap analysis and determine when requirements are best addressed through standard configuration, process changes, integrations, extensions, reporting, or custom development.
  • Develop functional specifications, process maps, configuration documentation, data requirements, and test scenarios.
  • Ensure requirements and designs are complete, clear, testable, and development-ready.

Solution Architecture & Technical Collaboration

  • Translate business requirements into solution direction for developers, integration teams, data teams, and technical architects.
  • Partner with technical teams on extensions, integrations, workflows, reporting, security, automation, and data migration.
  • Review technical designs to ensure they meet business requirements and follow D365 extensibility and supportability principles.
  • Provide functional input for integrations using APIs, OData, data entities, EDI, middleware, and third-party applications.
  • Support data migration activities including mapping, transformation, validation, reconciliation, and business sign-off.
  • Help identify opportunities to reduce unnecessary customization, technical debt, performance risks, and support complexity.

Delivery & Quality

  • Lead functional workstreams across consultants, developers, testers, and client SMEs.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog refinement, stand-ups, demos, and retrospectives.
  • Support functional testing, system integration testing, UAT, regression testing, and defect resolution.
  • Review completed configurations, development, reports, interfaces, and workflows against business requirements.
  • Support deployment readiness, cutover, release activities, and post-production stabilization.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, solution adoption, and delivery effectiveness.

Team Leadership

  • Provide functional leadership, mentoring, and quality oversight to functional consultants.
  • Coordinate activities across client, onshore, offshore, and partner teams.
  • Support estimation, planning, resource coordination, status reporting, and engagement governance.
  • Ensure documentation, knowledge transfer, and operational handover materials are complete and current.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of hands-on functional experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Supply Chain Management.
  • Experience leading D365 functional workstreams, projects, or delivery teams in a client-facing environment.
  • Strong experience working directly with business stakeholders, process owners, SMEs, and senior leaders.
  • Proven experience with requirements gathering, discovery, fit-gap analysis, user stories, functional design, and solution definition.
  • Experience delivering D365 F&SCM implementations, enhancements, transformations, or managed services.
  • Strong expertise in one or more of the following:
    • Finance / General Ledger / AP / AR / Budgeting / Fixed Assets / Cash & Bank
    • Supply Chain Management
    • Inventory Management
    • Procurement & Sourcing
    • Warehouse Management
    • Transportation Management
    • Asset Management
  • Strong understanding of D365 F&SCM configuration, business processes, data entities, and functional dependencies.
  • Experience with integrations, data migration, reporting, and security.
  • Ability to translate functional requirements into clear direction for technical and development teams.
  • Strong knowledge of Agile delivery, including user stories, acceptance criteria, backlog management, sprint planning, and UAT.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Techno-Functional Experience

  • Understanding of D365 F&SCM extensibility and the ability to collaborate effectively with X++ developers.
  • Familiarity with REST APIs, OData, data entities, EDI, and middleware.
  • Understanding of data migration, mapping, transformation, validation, and reconciliation.
  • Knowledge of D365 security concepts including roles, duties, privileges, and segregation of duties.
  • Exposure to Azure DevOps, Lifecycle Services (LCS), release management, and environment management is an asset.
  • Ability to review technical designs and ensure they satisfy business requirements and long-term supportability.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in fleet management, transportation, logistics, distribution, or other asset-intensive industries.
  • Knowledge of vehicle/equipment lifecycle management, maintenance, parts inventory, procurement, dispatch, transportation operations, asset utilization, or cost management.
  • Experience integrating D365 with fleet, transportation, warehouse, telematics, EDI, or financial systems.
  • Experience with Microsoft Power Platform, including Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate, or Dataverse.
  • Experience in multi-company, multi-country, or complex enterprise environments.
