Role Overview

The General Labourer supports site operations by assisting skilled trades and supervisors, maintaining a safe and clean jobsite, and completing assigned tasks efficiently to help projects meet schedule, quality, and safety requirements.

Key Responsibilities / Duties

  • Assist with moving projects forward in a steady, productive manner to help meet deadlines and quality goals.
  • Perform general labour tasks as directed by the Site Supervisor or Foreman.
  • Assist skilled trades and ACL staff with daily tasks and site activities.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe jobsite at all times.
  • Follow all Atkinson Construction (ACL) safety policies and Alberta OHS regulations.
  • Report unsafe conditions, incidents, or potential issues to a Supervisor immediately.
  • Assist with daily safety paperwork, site records, and documentation when requested.
  • Monitor and report low first aid or safety supplies to a Supervisor.
  • Assist with site setup and teardown, including temporary fencing, hoarding, lighting, power, heat, and air movement.
  • Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and progress meetings as required.
  • Help orient new workers or subcontractors when directed by a Supervisor.
  • Assist with securing the site at the end of the day when required.
  • Help monitor tools, equipment, and materials for safety and maintenance concerns.
  • Operate tools and equipment only when trained and authorized; request training when unsure.
  • Communicate clearly with supervisors and coworkers regarding task progress, materials needed, or concerns.
  • Support deficiency corrections and cleanup as required.
  • Demonstrate teamwork, reliability, and a positive attitude on site.

Skills & Abilities (Required or Willing to Learn)

  • Ability to follow instructions and work safely in a construction environment.
  • General construction tasks such as:
    • Site cleanup and material handling
    • Demolition assistance
    • Snow removal
    • Basic concrete prep and cleanup
    • Assisting with formwork and rebar (under supervision)
    • Assisting with framing and carpentry tasks
  • Use of hand tools and basic power tools (training provided as required).
  • Willingness to assist with:
    • Interior and exterior finishing tasks
    • Door, hardware, and accessory installation (under supervision)
    • Installation of insulation, vapor barriers, and moisture protection systems
    • Fire caulking and fire separation tasks (training provided)
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and perform physical labour safely.
  • Basic understanding of site safety practices.

  • Willingness to learn new skills and support coworkers.
  • Ability to identify potential issues and bring them to a Supervisors attention.
  • Valid drivers license is an asset (drivers abstract required if operating company vehicles).
