Hours:Monday to Friday 35 hours per week; Weekend: Occasional Saturdays

Position purpose

Provide course and registration advisement and support to students; assist in the functioning of the Academic Success

Major Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks General
  • Advising a caseload of students as primary advisor;
  • Monitor student academic progress, identify at-risk students, and implement proactive intervention strategies to support retention and academic success.
  • Conduct degree audits and provide academic planning to ensure timely completion of program and graduation requirements.
  • Advise students on Aviation Technology Institute program requirements, course sequencing, and applicable industry certification pathways.
  • Maintain accurate advising records and utilize student information systems to track student progress, engagement, and outcomes.
  • Collaborate with faculty and campus partners to deliver student success initiatives, remove barriers to persistence, and promote program completion.
  • Assist students in setting educational goals
  • Assist students in choosing courses relevant to their goals;
  • Establishing and maintaining a continual dialog with a case load of students about their progress, including checking in with the students face-to-face and via phone, text and email;
  • Monitoring the progress of the assigned caseload of students in our student information system;
  • Conduct occasional workshops and programming related to registration and program completion;
  • Participate in general retention efforts of the college, including committee meetings;
  • Maintain confidentiality with sensitive information and student records;
  • Participate in special events such as, Open House and Orientation and provide specific program and project support as needed;
  • Handle academic scheduling requests including maintaining rosters of room assignments.
  • Updating the student information system with changes to courses, schedules, rooms and instructors.
Department-wide responsibilities:
  • Working select evenings during peak periods (e.g., registration, orientation) and weekends during the operation of special programs.
  • Contributing to the priorities of the office Academic Success through other special projects and administrative duties.

Education and/or Experience Requirements
  • Associates degree in Aviation Maintenance, Aviation Technology, Aviation Science, Aviation Management, or a related field, combined with relevant aviation industry experience, may also be considered.
Professional Skills
  • Knowledge of retention issues and interventions for freshmen and undecided students;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Microsoft Excel;
  • Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Have the ability to work well with a diverse group of people;
  • Ability to understand and effectively communicate the mission of Vaughn College;
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent time management skills.

Work environment and physical functions

This position is located in an office environment. Generally, an employee needs to be able to sit, stand and navigate within the office area. The office equipment either individually used or shared with a department is the responsibility of all employees. This position is based on our campus in Queens, NY. This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule (in-person 4 days a week and remote 1 day a week), subject to change based on college policy and the business needs of the division. Specific days and schedule will be determined between you and your manager. An appropriate workspace will be required for remote work.

Preferred:
  • Experience working with aviation maintenance students, technical education programs, FAA regulations, or advising in a higher education setting is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling or a field related to flight/aeronautical sciences;

Compensation: $57,500-$62,500
