Job description

The Opportunity: The GED Lead Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality, standards-aligned GED instruction to adult learners and Opportunity Youth. This role focuses exclusively on academic instruction, student progress, and credential attainment.
The ideal candidate is an experienced adult educator and program builder who understands how to build confidence, close academic gaps, and create structured pathways toward GED completion. This role requires strong classroom leadership, data-informed instruction, and a commitment to student persistence and success.
Core Responsibilities:
GED Instruction:
Deliver instruction using a structured, adult-learner-centered model:
  • I DO (direct instruction and modeling)
  • WE DO (guided practice and collaborative learning)
  • YOU DO (independent practice and skill mastery)

Additional responsibilities include:
  • Provide engaging, standards-aligned instruction in GED subject areas (Math, RLA, Science, Social Studies).
  • Differentiate instruction for varied learning levels, including students with learning gaps, interrupted education histories, or low academic confidence.
  • Create structured lesson plans aligned to GED assessment standards and readiness benchmarks.
  • Maintain a supportive, high-expectation classroom environment.
  • Integrate test-taking strategies and confidence-building techniques into daily instruction.

Student Progress Monitoring & Support
  • Administer and interpret baseline and progress assessments.
  • Track measurable skill gains and testing readiness benchmarks.
  • Develop individualized learning plans for students requiring targeted academic support.
  • Collaborate with success coaches and intake staff to address attendance barriers and persistence challenges.
  • Support students in scheduling and preparing for official GED exams.
  • Maintain consistent communication with students regarding goals and progress.

GED Boot Camps & Accelerations:
  • Plan and lead GED Boot Camps and focused acceleration sessions for students nearing test readiness.
  • Develop short-term (2-4 week) structured academic improvement plans.
  • Track student milestones and celebrate academic achievements.
  • Support a culture of urgency and accountability around GED completion.

Documentation & Compliance
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in Salesforce, LMS platforms, and testing systems.
  • Ensure student attendance, instructional hours, assessment results, and test outcomes are properly recorded.
  • Participate in data reviews and contribute to continuous improvement efforts.
  • Support compliance with funding and reporting requirements as needed.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Adult Learning, Social Work or related field.
  • 2+ years of experience teaching adult learners or secondary students.
  • Strong knowledge of GED subject standards and test preparation strategies.
  • Experience differentiating instruction for diverse academic levels.
  • Ability to use assessment data to drive instructional planning and student interventions.
  • Strong classroom management and student engagement skills.
  • Proficiency with education technology platforms (LMS, Google/Microsoft tools); Salesforce experience preferred.
