Job Description - USC GEAR UP After School Tutoring Teacher
Position: USC GEAR UP Tutor
Location: In person
Length of Time:
Academic School Year
Compensation: District Rate ($30 - $40)
Reports to: CAMP Program Manager
Who We Are:
GEAR UP stands for Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs and is a federally funded partnership between Alabama State University and Columbia Public Schools. As part of the USC GEAR UP grant, our company will be working with 10th and 11th grade CPS students this year in an after school tutoring program.
College Admissions Made Possible is a Birmingham-based company that has been serving the educational community in Alabama since 2009. We believe every student who is eager to learn should have access to higher education. Our team brings over 150 years of experience in education to the table to provide schools a suite of services designed to improve student academic achievement. We are proud to partner with USC GEAR UP this academic year.
Job Description:
This is a professional instructional position responsible for the delivery and implementation of tutoring services. Tutors will work with GEAR UP cohort in one of two subject areas: math and english. Tutoring sessions will be held after school on a schedule set by the school administration.
The Tutor's responsibilities include but are not limited to:
1) Work to recruit GEAR UP cohort students in your school to participate in tutoring sessions
2) Work with students to provide additional academic support and instruction
3) Maintain accurate and complete records of student data and participation in GEAR UP activities, and submit on a timely basis to Program Manager.
4) Provide records or written reports as required for grant compliance
5) Arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the beginning of the session, and
remain assisting students and providing instruction for the duration
of the tutoring session
7) Assist students who have questions about subject area material
8) Create a plan of instruction to address state standards for each session
9) Collaborate with fellow tutors and CAMP personnel for program implementation
10) Perform related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree or higher
• At least one year of experience working with middle or high school students
• Strong ability to communicate with students and peers verbally and in writing
