Job description

JOB SUMMARY

The Weld Department Supervisor is responsible for the requirements of the Weld Department during the assigned shift and will lead the weld team to meet the goals of our customers. The Weld Supervisor will ensure that the scheduled work is executed safely and in a systematic manner so that qualified technicians can perform the assigned tasks. This position will monitor and ensure the completion of work while confirming the quality standards are being met. 

From a technical experience standpoint, the Weld Supervisor will apply their knowledge and skills in Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (TIG) and CNC Welding areas of Accuweld and CMT in the repair and modification of turbine engine components, primarily used in the aerospace industry or similar field of experience.

This position operates from a climate controlled and modern welding department area.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Follow established safety protocols and guidelines to ensure full compliance with company safety policies and procedures.
  2. Oversee the safety and well-being of the team in accordance with the company standards.
  3. Monitor assigned work while reviewing completed jobs/projects to ensure adherence to work scope and company expectations, including quality expectations and labor factor adherence.
  4. Constantly monitor and adjust job assignments to ensure that the production schedule is met in partnership with the scheduling and planning department. Review productivity via daily analysis of labor factors.
  5. Utilize computer software programs and applications in assigning, verifying, tracking, and monitoring metrics and job assignments.
  6. Motivate, coach, and counsel team members to achieve desired results.
  7. Manage personnel work hours, scheduled time off, shift schedules, and overtime.
  8. Perform functions, such as performance reviews, employee development, accountability of team members, conflict resolution, and disciplinary action with the Weld Department Manager.
  9. Collaborate with designated trainers and department managers to monitor, guide, and improve upon employee development as well as process improvements.
  10. Conduct (along with the Weld Manager) regularly scheduled department meetings, including monthly meetings and smaller more frequent group meetings as required.
  11. Communicate changes that affect employees in a timely manner.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. A minimum of two years' experience in a supervisory role (or similar) in a manufacturing environment or aviation maintenance setting.
  2. Experience in understanding and following verbal and written instructions accurately, including the reading and interpretation of technical drawings and work scope instructions.
  3. Successful completion of skill specific TIG welding courses from an approved technical or welding school and/or a minimum of two years' TIG specific welding experience.
  4. Previous certification credentials in an AWS welding classification, with AWS D17.1 preference.

 OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

  1. High School graduate, with advanced educational accreditation preferred.
  2. Read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  3. Basic knowledge of computers and standard software programs.
  4. Experience in interpreting and applying basic shop math and the use of measuring devices.
  5. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  6. Overall knowledge of manufacturing processes and production equipment

 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  1. This position has pre-employment testing requirements that may require fitness for duty testing and a vision exam.
  2. Follow general shop safety procedures including the occasional use of safety glasses, safety toe shoes, and hearing protection.
  3. Stand and/or sit for portions of the shift.
