Job description

Collects, labels, logs, and processes blood and other specimens. Checks quality of samples and specimens. Assembles supplies and equipment. Monitors lab incubator/refrigerator temperatures utilized . Prepare specimens for referral to outside laboratories. Acts as the Processing Supervisor in his/her absence; and other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Keeps track of the daily dental school log and registers patients in GE IDX.
  • Aids in training of new employees.
  • Assumes the basic duties of the supervisor in their absence.                                                                                        
  • Orders all appropriate tests in LIS system.
  • Registers all drop-off specimens in GE IDX.
  • Ensures the correct tubes and specimen containers have been submitted or collected for the appropriate test ordered and are labeled correctly.
  • Ensures CAP, UMPA, and GLP (when appropriate ) guidelines are followed during processing procedures.
  • Determines specimen acceptability.
  • Spins, separates, stores and distributes specimens to the appropriate area in the lab.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred
  • Five years of experience in a medical laboratory setting is preferred

The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of University of Maryland’s Faculty Physician’s Inc. salary range for this position. Some candidates will not be eligible for the upper end of the salary range.
