Under the direction of the ISO Depot Manager, the ISO Container Equipment Control Specialist is responsible for monitoring, tracking, and managing ISO container assets to ensure availability, compliance, cost control, and operational efficiency. This role supports operational continuity by coordinating equipment movements, monitoring utilization, ensuring regulatory compliance, and resolving equipment discrepancies across terminals, depots, and customer locations. This role maintains accurate equipment records, and works closely with operations, depots, carriers, and customers to minimize losses, detention, and idle time.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Equipment Control & Tracking
  • Monitor daily inventory of ISO containers across depots, terminals, and customer locations
  • Track container movements (in-gate, out-gate, empty, loaded, repair, and repositioning)
  • Ensure accurate container status updates in the equipment control system
  • Investigate and resolve equipment discrepancies, shortages, and overages
  • Operations Coordination
  • Coordinate container releases and returns with operations, dispatch, and depots
  • Support planning of container repositioning to meet customer and operational demands
  • Communicate equipment availability and constraints to internal teams
  • Assist with urgent or exception-based container movements
  • Cost Control & Compliance
  • Monitor detention, demurrage, storage exposure and escalate risks
  • Support recovery of missing or overdue containers
  • Ensure ISO container compliance with safety, inspection, and regulatory requirements
  • Track and report repair, cleaning, and maintenance status
  • Documentation & Reporting
  • Maintain accurate equipment records, gate tickets, and interchange reports
  • Prepare daily and weekly equipment status reports
  • Support audits related to container inventory and utilization
  • Update customer and carrier records as required
  • Customer & Vendor Communication
  • Respond to equipment-related inquiries from customers and internal stakeholders
  • Coordinate with depots, repair vendors, and transport providers
  • Resolve container disputes professionally and promptly

Job Requirements
Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED required; logistics degree preferred.
  • 1-3 years of experience in container control, logistics, shipping, or ISO depot operations.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with depot operations or intermodal logistics
  • Knowledge of detention, demurrage, and equipment utilization metrics

Essential Qualifications
  • Proficiency with TMS, EDI, Microsoft Office (Excel) or container tracking systems
  • Strong attention to detail and data accuracy
  • Ability to analyze data and identify operational trends
  • Effective communication and coordination skills
  • Problem-solving mindset with the ability to work under time-sensitive conditions.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment
  • Strong understanding of ISO container types and equipment flows

Language Skills
• Ability to read, write, and speak English proficiently
Physical Demands
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
  • May be required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to feel; reach with hand and arms, and stoop, kneel or crouch as needed.
  • May be required to lift 50 lbs.
  • Specific vision requirements include the ability to see close range, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to operate in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.

Work Environment
  • Office-based with regular interaction with depots and field operations
  • May require extended hours during peak operational periods
  • Occasional visits to other depots or terminals
