Summary/Objective:
Lay out, fabricate, assemble pipe in the field and fab shop; install and maintain industrial production and process piping and welding systems.
Essential Functions:
  • Knows the properties of various rods and fluxes used in welding metals
  • Read and interpret sketches, blue prints, and isometric plans/drawings
  • Able to measure routings of pipe and fabricate pipe to fit existing in-line piping system; utilize instrumentation cut sheets to do take outs for fabrication of spool pieces
  • Plan and layout sequence of installation to avoid obstructions
  • Cut pipe using port-a-band saw, reciprocating saw, pipe cutters, power saw, cutting torch, and pipe cutting machine
  • Assemble, fabricate and install variety of metal pipe and pipe fittings for both carbon steel and stainless steel
  • Installation of pipe and related materials and equipment, such as supports, hangers, and hydraulic cylinders, according to job specifications.
  • Secure pipe to structure with clamps, brackets, and hangers using hand tools
  • Remove slag and rough spots with a portable grinder, file or scraper as necessary
  • Determine required equipment and welding method, applying knowledge of metallurgy, geometry, and welding techniques
  • Work within precise limits or standards of accuracy
  • Rely on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job
  • Plan work and select proper tools
  • Work at heights without fear
  • Clean, bevel, prepare and install pipe with various fittings and weld joints
  • Perform layout, rigging and transportation of pipe, valves and fittings
  • Thread pipe using threading machine
  • Assemble and install a variety of metal or nonmetal pipe and pipe fittings, using threaded caulked, soldering, brazen, fused, or cemented joints and hand tools
  • May assist in lifting, positioning and securing of material and work pieces during installation
  • Respiratory protection is common and may be required
  • Responsible for observing and complying with all company, safety and project policies
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibility: No
Required:
  • 3+ years of experience with TIG and Stick pipe welding with various techniques including electric, gas, arc, or other equipment; or equivalent combination of vocational training and experience
  • Must pass ASME pipe welding test and background check
  • Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices and procedures
  • Knowledge of industrial mechanical systems
  • Field verify, routing, pipe systems prior to fabrication
  • Must be able to multi-task, work with minimal supervision, follow written and oral instructions, show attention to detail, and demonstrate problem-solving skills
  • Must be able to pass post-offer pre-employment drug screen, and may be required to satisfactorily complete additional background checks as required (i.e. DMV, criminal history)
  • Must adhere to all company policy and procedures
  • Must be available, and have the means to report to multiple job sites as assigned

The work environment and physical demands required would be representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job, and may include, but are not limited to the following:
Work Environment:
  • May work in varying temperatures; both inside and outside, including inclement weather, heat, humidity, cold and dampness
  • May be required to use hearing protection in and around areas with moderate/high exposure to high noise levels
  • May be required to use respiratory protection when working in areas with fumes, or airborne particles including dust
  • May be required to work in confined spaces or at heights

Physical Demands:
  • This role routinely uses construction equipment such as heavy machinery, hand and power tools
  • While performing duties of the job the employee may work aloft, climb, bend, pull, reach overhead, stand/walk for long periods of time and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms
  • Must be able to correctly identify all colors of a color-coded cable/wires and see close vision, distance vision, depth perception, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus

Travel:
  • May require travel (typically not overnight)

Preferred:
  • Prior military experience
  • HS diploma or GED equivalent
