The Director serves as a trusted partner to hospital leadership while leading a team of skilled technical maintenance, and responsible for maintaining critical healthcare infrastructure and supporting operational excellence.  This role provides oversight for facilities operations supporting hospital campuses and ambulatory care locations, offering broad responsibility and significant leadership impact. Leadership Scope & Responsibilities

As Director of Facilities & Plant Operations, you will provide leadership and oversight for all facilities maintenance, engineering, plant operations, infrastructure reliability, regulatory compliance, and environmental safety activities.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Direct all plant operations, facilities maintenance, engineering, grounds, and infrastructure services across hospital and ambulatory care locations 
  • Ensure continuous operation of critical systems including HVAC, electrical distribution, emergency power, medical gas, fire protection, and life safety systems 
  • Lead preventive maintenance, reliability-centered maintenance, and emergency preparedness programs 
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets, staffing plans, and operational goals 
  • Oversee capital improvement projects, vendor relationships, and contracted services 
  • Recruit, develop, mentor, and retain a high-performing facilities team 
  • Lead a skilled team of technicians, including HVAC techs, electricians, plumbers, painters, locksmiths, and other facilities staff 
  • Partner with hospital leadership to support patient safety, operational excellence, and regulatory readiness 
  • Lead Joint Commission, CMS, NFPA, OSHA, and other regulatory compliance efforts 
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on reliability, customer service, safety, and operational performance

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, Construction Management, Architecture, or a related field 
  • Minimum 7 years of facilities maintenance experience 
  • Minimum 5 years of leadership or supervisory experience 
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, emergency power, medical gas, and life safety systems 
  • Experience managing budgets, capital projects, and vendor relationships 
  • Working knowledge of Joint Commission, CMS, NFPA, OSHA, and healthcare regulatory requirements 
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Acute care hospital facilities leadership experience 
  • CHFM (Certified Healthcare Facility Manager) or similar professional certification 
  • Technical trade experience in electrical, HVAC, plumbing, boilers, refrigeration, or related systems 
  • Experience leading multi-site healthcare operations
