Essential Functions:

A Gas Meter Tech performs physical activities in support of completing meter support for construction crews, piping, leak detection, line testing, arm-overs/above ground /below ground piping and other related gas meter work. This position will identify and resolve problems and make timely decisions on a daily basis while constantly striving to obtain maximum productivity.
Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Meets client and operating company standards related to gas meter piping work in accordance with our core values.
  • Installs gas regulators, piping and pipe fitting work with iron pipe.
  • Keeps legible hand-written accurate records including daily work logs and installation records.
  • Cleans and prepares meter worksites to eliminate possible hazards.
  • Monitors and maintains tools and equipment for proper use, storage, and upkeep.
  • Complete all work in an organized, timely manner, within standard operating procedure.
  • Uses relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, or standards and communicates abnormal working conditions to appropriate parties.
  • Measures, cuts, and threads pipes to specifications, using tools such as saws, pipe threaders, or pipe benders.
  • Inspects, examines, or tests installed systems or pipelines, using pressure gauge, observation, or other methods.
  • Plans pipe system layout, installation, or repair, according to specifications.
  • Attaches pipes to walls, structures, or fixtures, such as radiators or tanks, using brackets, clamps, tools, or welding equipment.
  • Cuts or bores holes in structures, such as bulkheads, decks or walls prior to pipe installation, using hand or power tools.
  • Shuts off gases from pipe sections once approved by using valve keys or wrenches.
  • Assists crew leaders in construction/ reconstruction and maintenance work providing meter support.
  • Works safely around customer houses and private property, backhoes, excavators, and directional drills.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety data sheets, operating manuals, and work orders.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbal and written.
  • Good analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Provide exceptional customer service while on the jobsite.
  • Basic math skills required when measuring and performing take-offs for miscellaneous jobs.

  • Knowledge of standardized work routines and the ability to follow and give oral/written instructions involving a few steps
  • Knowledgeable with Microsoft software applications.
  • Moderate to strenuous effort required.
  • This position requires extended intervals of standing, walking, climbing, bending, crouching, working at heights from ladders, scaffolds, platforms and repetitive motions of the hand/wrist and elbow/shoulder.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • The employee is occasionally required to climb and balance and talk and hear.
  • Workers must also have the ability to work in confined, noisy, hot, and cold spaces and work with hand tools and shop equipment.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Experience and Education:
  • A high school diploma or G.E.D.
  • 2+ years of Residential Plumbing, pipe fitting & repair experience (diagnosing & troubleshooting a normal plumbing system).
  • 2-3 years of service plumbing experience required.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-to-year basis.
  • Previous experience working with underground utilities is preferred.

Additional Requirements/Licenses/Certifications:
  • Meter Tech or Plumbing experience, Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid State of Residence Driver's License is required within two weeks of employment.
  • Candidates must pass criminal and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) background checks and pass a pre-employment drug screen.
