JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Staff Engineer, Gas is responsible for designing natural gas distribution and transmission systems while managing projects from design through construction completion. This role includes preparing engineering plans, specifications, permits, contracts, and ensuring compliance with company standards and applicable regulations.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Design natural gas distribution facilities and associated support systems, including cathodic protection.
  • Prepare long-range capacity piping plans, easements, permits, bid packages, contracts, and main replacement program documentation.
  • Develop cost estimates, material specifications, project schedules, and capacity/pressure modeling studies.
  • Prepare and submit construction drawings and engineering documentation.
  • Perform economic feasibility studies and recommend customer contributions for new and replacement projects.
  • Manage engineering projects from design through completion, ensuring projects remain on schedule and within budget.
  • Coordinate activities with customers, contractors, government agencies, and internal departments.
  • Provide engineering design support to gas operations and field personnel.
  • Develop operational procedures and engineering documentation.
  • Mentor and train junior engineers.
  • Lead complex gas distribution projects involving multiple feeds and installation procedures.
  • Coordinate engineering design and construction activities across cross-functional teams.
  • Maintain extensive knowledge of natural gas distribution system records and documentation.

Education Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or another approved Engineering discipline from an accredited university.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) License required.

Experience Required:

  • Minimum 10 years of utility design or related project construction design experience.
  • Experience designing natural gas distribution and transmission systems.
  • Experience managing engineering projects from design through construction.
