Job description

Company Description D Sew Sew Good is a growing garment alterations and production studio serving clients in Columbia, SC and the surrounding area. The studio focuses on high-quality workmanship, personalized service, and reliable turnaround times for a wide range of clothing and custom pieces. Team members work closely with customers to ensure proper fit, comfort, and style, from everyday wear to special-occasion garments. D Sew Sew Good values attention to detail, clear communication, and pride in craft. The work environment is hands-on, collaborative, and centered on delivering excellent results for every client.

Role Description This part-time, on-site role is based in Columbia, SC and involves performing garment alterations and assisting with small-scale garment production. Day-to-day tasks include hemming, taking in or letting out seams, adjusting waistlines, replacing zippers, repairing garments, and working on custom modifications as requested by clients. The role also involves measuring customers accurately, pinning and marking garments for alteration, and operating industrial and domestic sewing machines, sergers, and pressing equipment. Team members help manage work orders, maintain a clean and organized workspace, and ensure that all projects are completed on schedule and to a high standard. The position requires regular face-to-face interaction with customers, including discussing fit preferences, providing basic consultations, and handling garments with care and professionalism.

Qualifications

  • Strong practical skills in sewing, garment construction, pattern adjustment, and hand finishing techniques.
  • Experience performing common alterations such as hemming, tapering, resizing, zipper replacement, and fit adjustments for various fabric types.
  • Proficiency in operating sewing machines, sergers, pressing equipment, and basic garment production tools safely and efficiently.
  • Ability to take accurate body and garment measurements, pin and mark garments correctly, and interpret fit requirements.
  • Good customer service and communication skills, including the ability to listen to client needs and explain alteration options clearly.
  • High level of attention to detail, quality control, and pride in workmanship, with the ability to follow instructions and meet deadlines.
  • Basic organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple projects, maintain records, and keep the workspace orderly.
  • Prior experience in a tailor shop, alterations department, costume shop, or apparel production environment is preferred.
  • Ability to stand, bend, and perform repetitive tasks as needed, and to handle delicate and high-value garments with care.
  • Availability to work a consistent part-time schedule on-site in Columbia, SC.
