Job Description

The Gaming Technician I in this position is responsible for providing superior service to both the internal and external customer.  The incumbent is also responsible for performing a wide variety of diagnoses and repairs of VLT machines, with infrequent assistance; possesses extensive knowledge of both mechanical and electronic aspects of VLT machine repair; provides training or assistance to lesser experienced technicians

Delivers superior internal and external guest service the Boyd Gaming and works harmoniously with fellow team members.

  • Provides superior customer service, positively effects interactions with external and internal customers and employees, and has the resiliency to deal with difficult customers in all types of business conditions and the ability to work harmoniously with coworkers.
  • Diagnoses and repairs the total range of all mechanical and electronic VLT machine malfunctions.
  • May utilize shop machines to fabricate standard or routine parts.
  • Replaces parts and circuit boards which have caused malfunctions; may repair some circuit boards, with assistance.
  • May occasionally act as a specialist in either mechanical or electronic areas.
  • Maintains advanced skill levels and immediately develops expertise required by new technologies for slot machines.
  • Performs general and preventive maintenance, VLT machine inspection, machine moving and installation, all in accordance with established procedures
  • Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.
  • This position spends time on the gaming floor and is subject to varying levels of crowds, noise and second-hand smoke in an open air environment, the severity of which depends upon customer volume.
  • This position is at times subjected to hazards such as electrical shocks..
  • Must be flexible to work varying shifts and time schedules as needed
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Ability to maintain all Regulatory licenses within assigned state of employment
  • Must successfully pass background check
  • Must successfully pass an alcohol and drug screening
  • Must be twenty-one (21) years of age
  • Must be willing to work a variety of shifts to include swing shifts and holidays if needed
  • Ability to maintain all Regulatory licenses within assigned state of employment

  • General understanding of electronics at the circuit board level.
  • General understanding of microprocessors.
  • Ability to use all machine test equipment.           
  • Machines and equipment used, but not limited to, include the complete range of radio frequency, high voltage, mechanical and pallet jacks, hand trucks, electronic diagnostic and repair equipment including Bally Test Equipment, IGT Test Equipment, other diagnostic and repair equipment, such as oscilloscopes (signal tracing with A-B comparisons and external trigger), EPROM checker-programmer, all machine testers (troubleshooting major boards to component level) AC and DC supplies (to locate over-current conditions), power supply testers, probes, soldering stations, heat guns, and a variety of hand tools, grinders, and other high speed component rotary appliances.
  • These skills are typically acquired through the completion of an AA degree in Electronics and one-year VLT repair experience, or through a minimum of two years' progressive VLT repair experience
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all times with customer, as well as all levels of employees.
  • Ability to observe and direct actions of peers.
  • Ability to inspect and maintain areas for which responsible.
  • Must be able to review and comprehend all necessary documentation.
  • Must be able to carry, bend, climb, squat, and lift up to 75 pounds, and push/pull up to 125 pounds so as to be able to reach all areas of machines in need of repair and move machines around work area as needed.
  • Ability to feel and work with hands/fingers as the Gaming Tech I may not always be able to see inside of the machine.
