UNIVERSITY OF ST. THOMASASSISTANT COACH - SOFTBALL The University of St. Thomas (www.stthom.edu), a private Catholic university committed to the liberal arts and to the religious and Intellectual traditions of the Catholic higher education, is seeking an Assistant Softball Coach.Purpose:This position is responsible for assisting the head softball coach with all aspects of the women's softball program, including the administration of day-to-day aspects of a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Softball program. This includes a commitment to the student-athletes' academic progress and degree completion.   The successful candidate will have an opportunity to mold and cultivate the softball program at the University of St. Thomas.  The program will be a part of the NCAA and will function as a member of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC).  The candidate, in conjunction with the head softball coach, will be instrumental in determining the foundation and direction of the program. The Assistant Softball Coach will report to the Head Softball Coach for all matters related to the softball program and will work closely with Admissions, faculty, administration and staff to help advance UST athletics. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Student development theory is used to create, plan, and implement educational, social, physical, and cultural programming designed to enhance the overall experience and achievement of both undergraduate and graduate students. These means are accomplished through the following specific duties:Assist in the day-to-day activities of an NCAA DIII softball programStay updated and compliant with all NCAA Division III rules and regulations.Recruitment of student-athletes in compliance with UNIVERSITY and NCAA DIII policies & proceduresCollaborate with the head coach on practice and game preparationFacilitate scheduling and travel arrangementsEstablish and maintain relationships with regional and national coaching organizations and associations.Coordinate with the Recreational Sports Office and off campus facilities with the scheduling of practices and other team events on and off campusWork with the Faculty Athletics RepresentativeCoordinate with other offices on campus including Admissions, Financial Aid, and the RegistrarParticipate actively in campus events and in order to support the University community and provide a leadership presencePerform other duties as assigned by the Head Baseball coach in accordance with the Director of Athletics and Recreational SportsServe as assistant game day administrator for other sports as assignedDesign, market and manage summer youth baseball camps and clinicsServe as facility monitor for safety and well-being of participants in athletic activities Qualifications and Requirements:EducationA Bachelor's Degree in Kinesiology, Sport Management or a related field is preferredExperienceA minimum of three years of softball experience. Excellent verbal communication and strong interpersonal skills.  Basic computer skills should include word processing and Excel spreadsheets.Supervisory Responsibilities:The Assistant Softball Coach will work in conjunction with any volunteer assistants, and possibly supervise student assistants and a team manager.  Fiscal Responsibilities:The Assistant Softball Coach is responsible to abide by University rules and guidelines for any and all expenditures including business departmental expenditures for the softball program. Working conditions:Position requires irregular office hours including after-hours and weekend work to attend competitions, recruit, conduct practices and attend university events.  Office hours will be established in consultation with the Head Softball Coach and Director of Athletics.  Physical requirements: will work in outside weather conditions and have the physical capabilities to meet the physical demands of the position including running, lifting, swinging a softball bat, exercising and bending for short and extended periods of time. The University of Saint Thomas is committed to the religious, ethical, and intellectual traditions of Catholic higher education.
