Job description

Children and Family Ministry Program Coordinator

Position Summary:

  • Create and implement children and family ministry programs that provide a welcoming, safe, and engaging environment where children and families can grow in their faith and form strong community bonds.
  • Working collaboratively with the Pastor, Council, and Faith Formation Ministry Team, the Family and Children’s Ministry Coordinator will oversee Sunday morning children’s programming, coordinate staff (Faith Formation Associate(s)) and volunteers, administer curriculum, and help lead key seasonal and outreach events throughout the year.

Responsibilities:

Sunday Morning Children’s Ministry (35%)

  • Administer and oversee weekly Faith Formation programming.
  • Provide direction to staff and volunteers. Recruit volunteers as needed.
  • Ensure “prayground” and classrooms are prepared with materials and supplies.
  • Maintain a welcoming, safe, and well-organized Sunday morning environment.
  • Adhere to Safe Church policy guidelines.
  • Be present at church each Sunday morning to lead and coordinate programming.

Curriculum Coordination & Faith Formation (15%)

  • Work collaboratively with the Pastor and Faith Formation Team to select and evaluate curriculum.
  • Prepare/coordinate and distribute weekly teaching materials to volunteers.
  • Adapt curriculum as needed to meet the needs of RHCC’s children and youth for our Faith Formation program.
  • Regularly meet with parents and families to share program information and incorporate feedback into ongoing program development.

Volunteer Leadership & Development (10%)

  • Build relationships with volunteers.
  • Maintain volunteer schedules and communication.
  • Offer support, appreciation, and encouragement.
  • Participate in required child safety and background check processes.

Outreach & Special Events (20%)

Coordinate and support several annual family-focused events, including but not limited to:

  • Trunk-or-Treat
  • Easter Egg Hunt
  • Fall Kickoff Event (Rally Day)
  • Advent Activities and Epiphany Pageant
  • Twice yearly Rocky Hill 3rd grade historical tour visits
  • Intergenerational events such as game nights, movie nights, outdoor fellowship, etc.

Responsibilities include volunteer coordination, supply preparation, communication with committee volunteers, and day-of event leadership.

Worship Engagement & Family Integration (10%)

  • Maintain and restock worship bags for children.
  • Support opportunities for children to participate in worship when appropriate.
  • Encourage intergenerational engagement within the congregation.

Meetings & Communication (10%)

  • Attend bi- weekly staff meeting (currently Mondays).
  • Meet regularly (weekly or bi-weekly) with the Pastor and Faith Formation Ministry Team (and Chair).
  • Attend Faith Formation Ministry Team meetings: co-develop agenda and engage Ministry Team in issue resolution and program evaluation
  • Maintain regular communication with families through weekly email and church systems.
  • Support Youth Ministry events as needed

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience preferred.
  • Prior experience in children or youth ministry or an educational field required.
  • Alignment with the core values of Rocky Hill Congregational Church – an Open and Affirming and W.I.S.E. (Welcoming, Inclusive, Supportive, and Engaged regarding mental health) progressive Christian community in which all are welcome.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to recruit, empower, and encourage assistants and volunteers.
  • Able to engage with Ministry Team and parents, accept and incorporate feedback as appropriate.
  • Safe Church clearances required (or willingness to obtain).

Work Schedule & Flexibility

This is a 10-20 hour per week position with flexible working arrangements. Hours worked will vary based on workload, meeting schedules, seasonal commitments.

Job Type: Part-time, hourly

Wage: $25 to $30 per hour, based on qualifications.

Work Location: Hybrid – At home and in person (Sunday and as needed).
