Motion capture artists capture the 3D animation of the characters. Coders and programmers translate what the designers create into computer code, while game testers rigorously play through the game and document everything that happens to promote quality assurance.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Game Designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Game Designer, you need a blend of creativity, strong storytelling, and an understanding of game mechanics, often supported by a degree in game design, computer science, or a related field. Familiarity with industry-standard tools such as Unity, Unreal Engine, and graphic design software, along with knowledge of scripting languages, is typically required. Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills help you collaborate effectively with artists, programmers, and other stakeholders. Game developers often encounter challenges such as balancing creative vision with technical limitations, meeting tight deadlines, and effectively collaborating within multidisciplinary teams. Managing scope creep and ensuring clear communication between designers, programmers, and artists are also frequent hurdles. Additionally, adapting to evolving technologies and responding to player feedback during development can require flexibility and problem-solving skills.

Job description

Cat Daddy Games is more than just a mobile video game company; we are a passionate and close-knit family of creators. Based in Kirkland, Washington, we combine our innovative spirit with the support and expertise of Take-Two Interactive to push the boundaries of what's possible in the gaming industry. With our focus on live service projects like WWE SuperCard and NBA 2K Mobile, we constantly strive to deliver engaging and unforgettable moments for our players.

What We Need:

Cat Daddy is seeking a Game Designer to join our team of artists, engineers, and product managers to collaborate on game feature designs and monetization strategies for free-to-play mobile games. The ideal candidate has shipped multiple F2P mobile games in a design role, from concept to live operations.

This is an in-office position, located in Kirkland, WA.

What You Will Do:
  • Design new gameplay experiences including time-limited events, alternative game modes, and mini-games that add variety and excitement to the core game loop.

  • Pitch and prototype creative concepts that align with player motivations, game themes, and business goals.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to balance fun, difficulty, and monetization across your designs.

  • Build and maintain clear documentation, wireframes, and specs to communicate design intent.

  • Analyze player feedback and data to refine designs and identify opportunities for future content.

  • Stay on top of mobile game trends and competitor features to ensure our game remains fresh and competitive.

Who We Think Will be an Excellent Fit:
  • 5+ years of game design experience, with a focus on free-to-play mobile games. Experience designing card-collecting, card-battling, and/or deck-building games is a plus!

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, and/or comparable, relevant work experience.

  • Expert-level understanding of the mobile game landscape from a game design perspective, including game economies, data analysis, and back-end environments.

  • World-class communication skills, with proven ability to produce effective design documentation

  • A great teammate who can collaborate with engineers and artists on game development.

At Cat Daddy, we believe diversity of experience is fundamental to creating accessible and fun gaming experiences for *all* of our players. We encourage everyone to consider being a part of our team.
