Job description

In May 2021, we embarked on a journey to start Haven Studios with a small team and big ambitions. Our goal was to build a studio where we could make the kind of games we've always wanted to create - and games we've longed to play.

Our first new IP for PlayStation is on track to deliver a AAA multiplayer experience with a vision to build a systemic and evolving world focused on freedom, thrill, and playfulness that will keep players entertained and engaged for years.

Haven joined the PlayStation Studios family in 2022, and we are on track to build an exclusive new IP for Playstation and grow the first Sony game development team in Canada.

Position - As a Game Designer at Haven you will develop and modify game features that fulfill our game design vision. You will work closely with people from other teams, such as Art, Programming, and World, to design and implement  features that will create a successful gameplay experience.  You are passionate about game design and able to transmit that passion in the work that you do and your collaborative interaction with people you work with at Haven. 

Reporting:

The Game Designer will report to the Lead Game Designer.

Responsibilities

  • Design game features that match the creative direction of the game.
  • Balance gameplay values to create a fun experience.
  • Work with audio, art, engineering, and other designers to create a cohesive experience.
  • Test features to ensure they meet the design goals.
  • Write design documentation for features and systems. 

Requirements

  • Solid professional experience as a Game Designer or a related role, with at least one shipped title (PC or Console) preferably a heavily systemic game.
  • Experience/Strong Interest multiplayer game mode and game structure
  • Deep understanding and passion for the principles of game design and  mechanics.
  • Good methodology and problem solving ability, with a focus on rapid iteration to achieve balance, pacing, and fun.
  • Effective collaborator with developers from other disciplines, along with willingness to lead focused multidisciplinary efforts.
  • Ability to create high level design documentation and game concepts.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Live Operations, Multiplayer game development experience.
  • Experience with Unreal Engine.
  • Knowledge/experience of designing for accessibility.
