Job description

Description:

What We Do:

At Gunfire Games, we’re passionate about creating unforgettable worlds and experiences. With a legacy built on titles like Darksiders III, Chronos, and the Remnant series, we continue to push the boundaries of game development through creativity, collaboration, and a relentless commitment to quality. We’re looking for talented, passionate developers who are excited to help shape the next chapter of our story.

Gunfire Games is seeking a highly skilled Senior UI Artist to lead the creation of visually compelling and highly functional user interfaces for our upcoming titles. This role bridges art, design, and engineering, driving the development of immersive HUDs, menus, icons, and interactive systems while ensuring seamless implementation in Unreal Engine. If you’re passionate about crafting exceptional player experiences and mentoring others in UI best practices, we’d love to hear from you.

We are specifically seeking artists with demonstrated experience creating UI for PC and console games. Candidates should have portfolios that showcase polished, production-quality interfaces designed for immersive game experiences, with a visual sensibility that complements the dark fantasy, post-apocalyptic, and action-oriented worlds that define Gunfire Games titles. Portfolios consisting primarily of mobile applications, web products, or other non-game interfaces are not a fit for this role.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the design, creation, and implementation of UI elements in Unreal Engine, including HUDs, menus, icons, minimaps, and interactive systems.
  • Collaborate closely with designers, programmers, and audio staff to ensure cohesive, high-quality UI that aligns with gameplay and art vision.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior UI artists, helping them grow their skills and maintain consistency across projects.
  • Utilize Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, and other tools to produce polished, visually consistent assets.
  • Animate interactive elements, transitions, and feedback systems that make the UI feel responsive and alive.
  • Work with particle systems, shaders, and mesh effects to enhance the visual impact of UI elements.
  • Iterate quickly based on feedback while maintaining visual fidelity, usability, and adherence to deadlines.
  • Advocate for UI and usability best practices across the team, helping to define standards for the studio.

Who You Are:

  • 5+ years in professional game UI roles, demonstrating leadership in both design and implementation across multiple projects.
  • Expert in Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, and Unreal Engine; experience with Flash or similar tools is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of particle systems, shaders, and 3D asset integration for UI.
  • Familiarity with ZBrush or other sculpting/modeling tools is a bonus.
  • Deep knowledge of typography, color theory, layout design, and usability principles.
  • Proven ability to mentor, give constructive feedback, and lead UI discussions with peers and cross-disciplinary teams.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, iterative production environment with evolving project needs.
  • Passionate about games and creating interfaces that elevate the player experience.
  • You can provide a portfolio pieces showcasing innovative or experimental UI ideas.
  • You have shipped an AA/AAA title.

Bonus XP:

  • Experience designing UI for action-adventure, co-op, or shooter games.
  • Strong motion graphics or VFX skills for UI elements.
  • Experience with accessible UI design and creating interfaces that are inclusive to all players.
  • Familiarity with game analytics or telemetry to inform UI/UX decisions.
  • Passion for dark fantasy, post-apocalyptic, or high-intensity game worlds.

The responsibilities listed above are not intended to be exhaustive. The selected candidate may be expected to perform other duties as reasonably required. This position may initially be offered on a temp-to-hire basis.

Pay range: $90,000-$130,000. Title level and base pay offered will be based on candidate’s skills, experience, and other professional considerations.
