Game Project Manager information

What does a game project manager do?

A Game Project Manager oversees the planning, execution, and delivery of video game projects. They coordinate teams of designers, developers, artists, and testers to ensure the project stays on schedule and within budget. Their responsibilities also include setting milestones, managing resources, communicating with stakeholders, and resolving any issues that arise during development. Ultimately, they ensure that the final game meets quality standards and is delivered successfully.

What are some common challenges a game project manager faces during the game development lifecycle?

Game Project Managers often navigate challenges such as balancing creative vision with project constraints, managing cross-functional teams with diverse skill sets, and adapting to shifting priorities or deadlines. Coordinating between departments like art, design, engineering, and QA requires strong communication and conflict resolution skills. Additionally, unforeseen technical hurdles or changes in scope can impact timelines, so proactive risk management and flexibility are key for keeping the project on track.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a game project manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Game Project Manager, you need strong project management skills, familiarity with game development processes, and a relevant degree or equivalent experience. Experience with project management software (like Jira or Trello), Agile methodologies, and sometimes certifications such as PMP are commonly required. Exceptional communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities help facilitate collaboration among creative and technical teams. These skills and qualifications are crucial for ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and at a high quality.

Job description

Oh, hello there creative one

Funday is a full-service & fully-remote agency made up of people who are friendly and hardworking in equal measure. Inspired by an unrelenting belief that having fun is integral to creativity, we like to say we’re all about fun and brains. You know, that sweet spot between where pretty and performance meet and where insight and imagination produce the entirely unexpected? That’s where we thrive.

Senior Art Director

As a Senior Art Director, you will report directly to a Creative Director. Our clients and our team members are scattered around the globe. Your role will be varied and may change from day-to-day. We need you to be senior enough that you can act as a guide for a junior on an account and also be willing to get your hands on the tools as you’ll sometimes be the only creative on a project. We’re a small group – so everyone gets their hands dirty. You’ll always be working with a team who has a passion for great work, as well as strategists, technologists, and producers who will help you push the work forward.

You are a maker and a storyteller, and you're curious. You use your craft to bring creative solutions to life. You lead projects into fun & inspiring creative territories. You know the FUNdamentals, and are good enough to break the rules. You’re happy to forge your own path, but you know when to get others involved.

Location – you’ll work remotely from anywhere in BC, AB, ON.

What you’ll do

Concept Development

Team up with our strategists, designers, and copywriters to cook up fresh, bold ideas that’ll make people stop and stare – whether it’s for ads, branding, digital content, or social media. Bring your creative fire to art direction, blending the hottest trends with your personal flair to create something truly unique and unforgettable.

Project Execution

Lead art direction across TV spots, print, and social campaigns. From mood boards to storyboards and production roll-out, you’ll be key to helping the team to perfect every detail. Take feedback in stride, tweak the creative, and make sure every campaign wows and drives results.

Unleash Your Craft

Get your hands dirty, designing everything from the basics to bold, complex campaigns. Bring your A-game to every project, elevating the work and ensuring top-notch quality.

Client Interaction

Team up with the Engagement Manager and Creative Director to share ideas with clients, embrace feedback as an opportunity, and turn it into action. Our goal? To make every client meeting the highlight of their day.

Team Collaboration & Mentorship

Join our dynamic team of creators, where collaboration and enthusiasm fuel great work. Embrace peer feedback, knowing the best ideas come from a group effort. Stay open to change and always push ideas further. If “we” defines how you approach work, Funday is where you belong.

What you’ll need to succeed

  • Portfolio demonstrating conceptual skills that result in innovative and inspiring creative solutions

  • Curiosity and a passion for digital media and the latest trends in tech
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects/tasks
  • The ability to collaborate, take constructive criticism, and seek out and act on peer/client feedback, all of which are essential to good team chemistry and client relations

  • Don’t forget to include your portfolio - if there isn’t a portfolio, we won’t consider your application. Sounds harsh, but we get LOTS of applications.
  • If you live in Canada, are able to work here and you are in one of these provinces: BC, AB, ON - please apply! Otherwise, we’re sorry, we won’t be able to employ you.
  • Please note: we post the same role in multiple locations to help us cast a wide net. Applying to each location for a posting will not increase your chances. Now that we've saved you some time, go do something fun!
  • This posting is for an existing vacancy we are looking to fill immediately and not a prospective future role (i.e. we’re saying this isn’t a ghost job).

Come be a Funatic

We believe you won’t perform at your best if you’re not having fun. And you can’t have fun if you’re not performing. We believe that this creates the best client + agency relationships, and is the best way to make great work.

We believe in respect, inclusivity, kindness, equity, and equality. We want to make a positive impact. We believe that collaboration is the fun part of being at work. We strive to create a culture in which “we” is more important than “me”.
Apart from loving terrible fun puns, we’re a start-up, and we're growing fast – which means you’ll have a chance to make your mark and grow with us. We’re also almost 100% remote, and that might not appeal to everyone – but if you value flexibility, it’s perfect.
