MLV - Intern, Public Relations: $16.37 per hour
Position Summary: The Public Relations Intern supports Minnesota Major League Volleyball by assisting with game-day media operations, creating and distributing team communications, and providing administrative support throughout the season. This role is essential to ensuring media members, broadcasters, and internal stakeholders receive timely, accurate, and professional information while helping showcase the team's brand and athletes. By fostering positive media relationships and supporting effective communication across departments, the Public Relations Intern contributes to a seamless game-day experience and helps enhance the visibility and reputation of the organization.
Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
  • Support the execution of game-day communications and media operations for all home matches.
    • Manage press box setup and breakdown for all home matches, ensuring a professional and organized working environment for credentialed media.
    • Prepare and distribute all game-day media materials, including match notes, statistics packets, lineups, rosters, seating charts, welcome materials, media guides, and broadcast booth information.
    • Produce and distribute official game-day lineup sheets and starting lineups to media, broadcasters, officials, and league personnel.
    • Support the creation and distribution of pre-match and post-match media materials, including statistical summaries, recaps, quotes, and game books.
    • Assist with media credential distribution and check-in at designated arena entrances, providing excellent customer service to members of the media.
    • Coordinate post-match media availability, including facilitating interviews with players, coaches, and team personnel.
    • Serve as a game-day liaison between media members, broadcasters, team staff, league representatives, and arena personnel.
    • Maintain inventory of media and press box supplies throughout the season.
    • Assist with league reporting requirements, including submitting statistics, match reports, and required documentation.
  • Create, write, and distribute communications materials that support the team's public relations efforts.
    • Assist in writing, editing, and proofreading communications materials, including match notes, weekly reports, media guides, postseason guides, feature stories, and press releases.
    • Support the writing and distribution of team publications, including weekly reports, match notes, media guides, and postseason publications as needed.
    • Coordinate the distribution of team news and announcements to local, regional, and national media outlets.
    • Respond professionally and promptly to media inquiries under the direction of the communications staff.
    • Assist with website content updates and posting news releases as assigned.
    • Assist with statistical research, historical information requests, and fact-checking for communications materials.
    • Help prepare players and coaches for media interviews by organizing schedules and providing supporting materials when requested.
    • Support photography and video staff by coordinating media access and identifying storytelling opportunities.
  • Provide administrative support and contribute to the overall success of communications efforts.
    • Track, compile, and archive media coverage across print, digital, television, radio, and social media platforms.
    • Monitor local and national media coverage and prepare daily or weekly media clip reports for internal staff.
    • Assist with credential requests, media databases, and distribution lists throughout the season.
    • Update media contact lists and maintain accurate communications records.
    • Help maintain team media archives, including photos, game notes, statistics, and press releases.
    • Support the execution of press conferences, media events, community appearances, and special team announcements.
    • Provide administrative support to the communications department, including filing, data entry, printing, copying, and other office tasks.
    • Participate in department meetings, planning sessions, and special events as assigned.
    • Work collaboratively with marketing, social media, content, game presentation, and volleyball operations departments to ensure consistent messaging and timely communications.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:
Formal Education & Certification:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

Knowledge & Experience:
  • Previous internship, student organization, campus media, or athletic communications experience preferred.
  • Strong writing, editing, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills with ability to use Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Adobe InDesign.
  • Knowledge of volleyball preferred.
