Job description

Job Description:
Berklee College of Music's Screen Scoring Department invites applications for a full-time faculty position in Game and Interactive Media Scoring (GAIMS). We seek an innovative educator and accomplished media composer to help lead and expand the first comprehensive undergraduate program of its kind.
The successful candidate will bring significant professional experience in game and interactive media scoring, a passion for teaching and mentorship, and a forward-looking vision for interactive audio in games, immersive media, and emerging technologies. This faculty member will play a central role in shaping curriculum, strengthening industry and academic partnerships, and advancing the GAIMS program to its next phase of growth.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Teach undergraduate courses in game and interactive media scoring across introductory, intermediate, and advanced levels, including core curriculum and upper-level electives.
  • Develop and refine curriculum to reflect emerging trends in interactive audio, immersive storytelling, and nonlinear media.
  • Integrate contemporary game engines and middleware (Unity, Unreal Engine, FMOD, Wwise) into coursework.
  • Cultivate and expand interdisciplinary partnerships with peer institutions and external collaborators (e.g., USC, Fitchburg State, University of Wisconsin-Stout, and others).
  • Collaborate with Berklee ITS and Lab Operations to maintain and advance classroom technology infrastructure.
  • Mentor and train junior faculty, tutors, and student employees within the department.
  • Participate in departmental service, including course coordination, faculty meetings, visiting artist events, and program initiatives.
  • Maintain regular student office hours.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • Significant professional credits as a composer and/or audio designer for games or interactive media.
  • Demonstrated teaching experience, preferably at the collegiate level
  • Fluency in interactive audio workflows and middleware (Unity, Unreal Engine, FMOD, Wwise).
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and leadership skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in teaching and professional practice.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with immersive and spatial audio (VR/AR/XR), 360° audio, or metaverse applications.
  • Advanced proficiency in scoring technology, including DAWs (Cubase, Pro Tools), notation software (Dorico), and virtual instruments.
  • Recording studio experience, session management, and conducting skills.
  • Strong background in composition, orchestration, and professional notation formatting and standards.
  • Knowledge of game design principles and nonlinear narrative structures.
  • Experience integrating generative AI tools into creative or pedagogical workflows.

Salaries for faculty positions vary by academic rank; Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor. Candidates are placed into a rank following the final completion of the interview process, based on qualifications, experience, and alignment with institutional needs.
