Game Director information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Game Director, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Game Director, you need deep experience in game design, project management, and a strong understanding of the gaming industry, often backed by a degree in game development or a related field. Familiarity with game engines (such as Unity or Unreal Engine), production pipelines, and agile project management tools is typically required. Exceptional leadership, creative vision, and communication skills help align teams and inspire innovation throughout development. These skills ensure cohesive project execution, high-quality gameplay, and the successful realization of a creative vision in a competitive market.

How does a Game Director typically collaborate with other departments during the development process?

A Game Director works closely with leads from art, design, programming, audio, and production teams to ensure the game’s vision is consistently realized throughout development. They facilitate regular cross-departmental meetings, provide feedback, and help resolve creative or technical conflicts. This collaborative approach helps align all departments with the project’s goals, streamlines decision-making, and fosters a unified direction for the game. Effective communication and leadership are crucial, as the Game Director must balance creative inspiration with practical constraints.

What is a Game Director?

A Game Director is the lead creative authority on a video game project, responsible for shaping the overall vision and direction of the game. They oversee the design, story, gameplay mechanics, and coordinate teams across art, programming, and production to ensure the project stays on track. Game Directors make high-level decisions, solve complex problems, and ensure the final product aligns with both creative goals and business objectives. They play a key role in maintaining the game's quality and cohesiveness throughout development.

Job description

At PrizePicks, we are the fastest-growing sports company in North America, as recognized by Inc. 5000. As the leading platform for Daily Fantasy Sports, we cover a diverse range of sports leagues, including the NFL, NBA, and Esports titles like League of Legends and Counter-Strike. Our team of over 550 employees thrives in an inclusive culture that values individuals from diverse backgrounds, regardless of their level of sports fandom. Ready to reimagine the DFS industry together?
We're looking for a strategic and data-driven Director of Promotions to lead our efforts in maximizing the effectiveness of our promotional strategy, maximizing player engagement and loyalty whilst constantly optimizing for investment efficiency. In this high-impact role, you'll oversee the development and execution of personalized, cross-channel promotional strategies that deepen customer relationships, deliver excitement to the user base and drive lifetime value.
What you'll do:
  • Deliver and manage the execution of a coherent promotional strategy, effectively balancing engagement and retention through data-driven reinvestment.
  • Constantly optimize against the significant monthly budget, ensuring the right players are receiving the right level of investment.
  • Be a thought leader in customer segmentation strategy and execution.
  • Present, deliver insights and engage with senior and executive leadership; translating insights into repeatable playbooks.
  • Develop and own an always-on test & learn roadmap, establishing frameworks for accurately measuring success and iterating upon learnings.
  • Drive the PrizePicks brand forward with exciting, engaging promotions that deliver brand loyalty and advocacy.
  • Work and build ways of working with key collaborators and stakeholders; primarily with CRM, Analytics, Game Operations, Marketing and Programmatic Promotions.
  • Ensure all promotions meet regulatory and compliance standards, particularly in a highly regulated DFS/gaming environment.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing team, driving a culture of accountability, experimentation and learning.
What you have:
  • 8+ years of experience in Retention or Revenue Operations, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Deep understanding of customer segmentation, lifecycle stages, and promotional best practices.
  • Proven experience managing and optimizing a large budget.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and turn insights into action.
  • Experience in a mobile-first, fast-paced consumer technology or gaming environment strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with regulatory and compliance considerations in gaming, fantasy sports, or sports betting is a plus.
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional leadership skills
  • Industry and/or existing organic interest in the PrizePicks product desirable.

Where you'll live:
  • While we prefer candidates based in Atlanta, we are open to qualified applicants from anywhere in the U.S. and are willing to consider remote candidates. #LI-Remote
