Background
Hartford Athletic is Connecticut's professional soccer team competing in the United Soccer League. Hartford Athletic strives to provide a world-class professional soccer experience and build community through the beautiful game. Our Club aims to make the city, state, and region proud and, in doing so, make Hartford the best place to live, work, and play.
The Venue Programming & Event Development Intern will work closely with the Director of Venue Optimization & Programming to support the research, planning, coordination, and execution of Hartford Athletic match-day initiatives, special events, community programming, and non-soccer events at Trinity Health Stadium.
This internship offers hands-on experience in event development, vendor coordination, venue programming, revenue strategy, and professional sports business operations.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Research and help develop new stadium events, community programs, festivals, watch parties, and other revenue-generating opportunities.
  • Research potential vendors, entertainers, attractions, food trucks, rental companies, and service providers.
  • Assist with vendor outreach, pricing requests, scheduling, documentation, and event-day coordination.
  • Help develop event concepts, budgets, timelines, layouts, presentations, and planning materials.
  • Assist with the planning and execution of Hartford Athletic theme nights, fan engagement activities, promotions, and special events.
  • Support the coordination of stadium rentals and non-match-day events.
  • Research industry trends, comparable events, venue best practices, and new guest experience opportunities.
  • Assist with food and beverage programming, merchandise initiatives, and other revenue-generating projects.
  • Support communication and coordination between internal departments, vendors, partners, and event stakeholders.
  • Assist with Hartford Athletic match days, including vendor coordination, event programming, fan experience initiatives, merchandise, concessions, and other assigned projects.
  • Help ensure planned match-day activities and special event elements are properly prepared and executed.
  • Assist with event setup, on-site coordination, troubleshooting, and breakdown as needed.
  • Prepare spreadsheets, reports, presentations, event recaps, and operational documents.
  • Attend planning meetings and provide updates on assigned projects.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as deemed necessary by the Club.

Desired Qualifications

Requirements
  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in Sport Management, Event Management, Hospitality, Business, Marketing, Communications, or a related field.
  • Eligible for college credit or willing to volunteer.
  • Available from the end of July through the conclusion of the Hartford Athletic season, typically in November.
  • Available to work Hartford Athletic home matches and select stadium events, including nights and weekends.
  • Reliable transportation to Trinity Health Stadium.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds when assisting with event setup and execution.
