GENERAL FUNCTION:

The 4 Year Old Kindergarten Assistant is responsible for the care and education of all children enrolled in the YMCA 4 Year Old Kindergarten programs. Assistant must abide within the policies and procedures of the YMCA, Stevens Point School district and State Licensing regulations. The 4 Year Old Kindergarten Assistant assists the 4 Year Old Kindergarten teacher in implementing the curriculum and providing a safe and healthy learning environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Position requires meeting the qualifications for child care assistant under DCF 251 Licensing Rules for Group Day Care Centers and experience working with children ages’ 2-½ -5, and their families. This position requires creativity, flexibility, high energy levels, patience, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work as a team. CPR w/AED and First Aid certification is a prerequisite of hire, but will allow 90 days post-hire to obtain.

Requirements:

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Applicant must be able to observe children by sight and sound and have the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with children and adults. Must be able to lift young children weighing up to approximately 50 pounds. Moving small tables, chairs, and some equipment is necessary. Position also requires that staff person is active during entire class time. This may include: swimming, running, sitting on the floor, and leading large group games.


TYPICAL WORK SCHEDULE:

Monday through Friday from 8:00am-4:30pm.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Establish and maintain a safe and healthy 4-Year-Old Kindergarten environment by preparing and serving nutritious snack and keeping room, toys and kitchen clean and sanitized.
  2. Create a safe and friendly environment by using positive guidance techniques, communicating with children at their developmental level, and encouraging children to be independent.
  3. Establish positive and productive relationships with children and their families.
  4. Always use majority of class time directly interacting with children.
  5. Maintain a commitment to professionalism and quality programming for children by promoting the YMCA mission and values.
  6. Attend staff meetings, staff trainings, and in-services provided by the YMCA and the Stevens Point School district.
  7. Attend to all State Licensing Regulations as well as YMCA Quality Standards. Adhere to OSHA standard and guidelines.
