Spend your summer outside playing games, helping with activities, and making a difference for younger campers. As a Junior Camp Counselor, you’ll work alongside experienced staff to lead games, support activities, and keep campers engaged all day long. You’ll build confidence, learn new skills, and gain real leadership experience - without being stuck inside.

No experience? Totally fine. We’ll teach you everything you need to know.

Position Summary

Junior Camp Counselors assist Camp Counselors with daily group activities including sports, games, arts & crafts, swimming, and more. They help keep campers engaged, support group management, and ensure a fun and safe environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Help set up and lead games, activities, and daily camp programming.
  • Assist Camp Counselors with supervising and engaging campers throughout the day.
  • Encourage campers to participate and have fun in all activities.
  • Be a positive role model for campers and represent the YMCA in a professional and friendly way.
  • Support inclusion and teamwork among all campers.
  • Help maintain camp spaces, equipment, and cleanliness.
  • Adapt to different tasks and support the team as needed.
  • Participate in pre-camp training.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 16 years old.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with children and peers.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn.

YMCA will provide required safety training including Child Abuse Prevention, CPR, First Aid, AED, and other safety certifications prior to working with children.
