SENIOR PV & BESS ENGINEER
Location: Eden Prairie, MN | Hybrid | Remote
Salary: $105,000 - $160,000 (based on experience)
EVS is seeking a Senior PV & BESS Engineer to lead the design and technical execution of utility-scale solar (PV) and battery energy storage (BESS) projects.
This role is ideal for an experienced engineer who thrives on solving complex technical challenges, collaborating across engineering disciplines, and delivering innovative renewable energy solutions from concept through construction.
You'll play a key role in shaping large-scale renewable energy infrastructure while mentoring engineers, driving technical excellence, and partnering directly with clients to deliver high-quality project outcomes.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Lead the design and technical analysis of utility-scale PV and BESS projects, ensuring optimized system performance, reliability, and safety.
  • Serve as the technical lead and reviewer for engineering calculations, electrical system designs, and project deliverables.
  • Develop and continuously improve engineering standards, design practices, and technical documentation.
  • Partner with clients, contractors, and project stakeholders to establish project requirements, schedules, and technical expectations.
  • Collaborate closely with Project Managers to align engineering deliverables with project scope, budget, and timelines.
  • Coordinate with Power Studies, Civil, Structural, Survey, and Geotechnical teams to deliver fully integrated engineering solutions.
  • Support project feasibility studies, technology evaluations, equipment selection, and vendor coordination.
  • Provide engineering support during construction by resolving field issues, reviewing RFIs, and recommending practical design solutions.
  • Perform quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) reviews to ensure designs meet company standards and applicable industry codes.
  • Stay current on evolving renewable energy technologies, electrical codes, and industry best practices, incorporating improvements into project designs.
  • Mentor junior engineers by providing technical guidance, design reviews, and coaching to support professional growth.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience designing utility-scale solar PV, battery energy storage (BESS), or related power infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of power system modeling, protection coordination, and SCADA integration.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and electrical engineering design software.
  • Experience performing advanced electrical calculations, interconnection studies, and grid integration analyses.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable industry standards and electrical codes, including NEC, IEEE, and IEC.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex engineering challenges and provide practical solutions during design and construction.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate technical data and make sound engineering decisions.
  • Strong communication and client relationship skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to lead technical discussions, manage multiple priorities, and collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience mentoring or providing technical leadership to engineers is preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification is a plus.
