Context of Job:
The Assistant Coach I, Diving, at the University of Delaware is a valued member within the University and Department of Athletics, Community & Campus Recreation (DACCR), upholding and embracing the departmental mission of 'Achieving Excellence Together'. The Assistant Coach I reports to the Head Coach of Swimming and Diving, as well as the Senior Associate AD, Sports Administration, and carries out all responsibilities delegated by the Head Coach. The incumbent assists with all aspects of the operation of a Division I scholarship program, including instruction, preparation for opponents and recruitment of student-athletes, under the general supervision of the Head Coach. On-campus contacts include students, support staff, administrators, peers and colleagues while off-campus contacts include prospective student-athletes and their families as well as peer coaching personnel at other institutions/and the general public (fans). The incumbent must be thoroughly knowledgeable of the technical and tactical aspects of the sport and effective at transferring that expertise to the student- athletes in the program.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Instructs, organizes and executes daily practice and game plans/preparations.
  • Coaches/Instructs student-athletes in the technical aspects of the game.
  • Recruit qualified student-athletes for the University, including but not limited to correspondence and contacts with club and high school coaches and prospects, coordinating and facilitating visits, evaluation of practice and competition, working camps and clinics that align with program needs, and assist with maintenance of database.
  • Assist with organization and management of travel and equipment budget/needs.
  • Represents University to high school coaches, guidance counselors, alumni, parents and prospective student-athletes.
  • Assists with film/video analysis, both for scouting and preparation for upcoming opponents and for recruiting evaluation of talent, as assigned by Head Coach.
  • Provide training assistance to student-athletes during on and off-season strength and conditioning program execution.
  • Provides counsel to student-athletes - academically, athletically and personally.
  • Executes game-day responsibilities as assigned by the Head Coach.
  • Executes other duties as assigned by the Head Coach.
  • Performs administrative assignments as designated by Athletics administrators.
  • Provides analysis for team/player development.
  • Record and organize training-related data.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in coaching related curriculum or acceptable equivalent field, and one year collegiate coaching or playing experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Willingness to comply with NCAA rules (Division I familiarity preferred).
  • Advanced knowledge of skills and strategies, as well as specialized knowledge of sport required.
  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment and work collaboratively with staff and student-athletes, as well as ability to work independently, when required.
  • Ability to read and follow technical instructions and manuals and make administrative procedural decisions and judgments.
  • Understanding and commitment to the Diving Program Program and Athletic Department Vision, Values, Mission; and University policies and NCAA rules.
  • Basic computing skills.
