Description
Taft Junior College was established on August 30, 1922 as part of the Taft Union High School District. Classes were first held on the high school campus. The school title officially became Taft College on July 1, 1954, and in September of 1956 a separate campus opened in the current location at 29 Cougar Court adjacent to the high school. The West Kern Community College District was later formed, and is a single-college-district under the guidance of a five-member Board of Trustees. With strong leadership, Taft College offers a robust academic program for its students, and is one of the finest small colleges around!
Work Study Responsibilities:
  • Greet visitors with a warm and friendly "Hello" or "Welcome" as they enter the gallery.
  • Provide information about current exhibits, artists, and any special events or programs.
  • Offer assistance and answer questions regarding gallery policies, artwork, and facilities.
  • Prevent any unauthorized handling, touching, or photography of artwork.
  • Monitor and control visitor access, ensuring that no one enters restricted areas.
  • Enforce gallery rules, including the use of "No" flash photography, food, and/or drinks inside the gallery.
  • Assist with opening and closing procedures, including locking and unlocking doors, and displaying proper signage for gallery hours.
  • Assist in installation and deinstallation of art work.

Expectations:
  • Dress professionally and represent the Taft College gallery in a positive and respectful manner.
  • Keep cell phone use to a minimum.
  • Maintain Confidentiality.
  • Maintain your time card daily and accurately.
  • Ask questions if you do not understand a task.

Requirements
  • Currently enrolled in a minimum of 6 units with Taft College
  • Maintain current enrollment in good status.
