How much do fusion power jobs pay per hour?

As of Aug 21, 2026, the average hourly pay for fusion power in Michigan is $46.73, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $39.81 and $53.03 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is fusion power?

Fusion power is a form of energy generation that seeks to replicate the process powering the sun and stars, where atomic nuclei combine to form heavier nuclei, releasing vast amounts of energy. Unlike nuclear fission, which splits atoms, fusion merges them, typically using isotopes of hydrogen such as deuterium and tritium. Fusion has the potential to provide a nearly limitless, safe, and environmentally friendly energy source, as it produces minimal radioactive waste and no greenhouse gases. However, achieving practical and sustained fusion energy on Earth remains a significant scientific and engineering challenge.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a fusion power engineer?

To thrive as a Fusion Power Engineer, you need a solid background in nuclear engineering or physics, advanced mathematics, and experience with energy systems, often supported by a relevant degree and industry certifications. Familiarity with simulation tools, plasma modeling software, and safety regulations is typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, teamwork, and effective communication help individuals excel in complex, collaborative research environments. These competencies are crucial for ensuring the safe, innovative, and efficient development of fusion energy technology.

What are some common challenges faced by engineers working in fusion power research and development?

Engineers in fusion power research often encounter challenges such as maintaining plasma stability, managing extreme temperatures, and developing materials that can withstand intense neutron radiation. Collaboration is essential, as teams typically include physicists, material scientists, and systems engineers working together to solve complex interdisciplinary problems. Additionally, the long-term nature of fusion projects requires patience and adaptability, as progress can be incremental and subject to evolving research priorities.

What is the difference between Fusion Power vs Nuclear Engineer?

AspectFusion PowerNuclear Engineer
Required CredentialsAdvanced degrees in plasma physics, nuclear engineering, or related fields; specialized training in fusion technologyBachelor's or master's in nuclear engineering; professional engineering license often preferred
Work EnvironmentResearch labs, fusion reactor facilities, academic institutionsNuclear power plants, research facilities, government agencies
Industry UsageEmerging industry focused on developing fusion as a clean energy sourceEstablished industry involved in nuclear energy production and safety

Fusion Power professionals focus on developing fusion energy technology, often working in research and experimental settings. Nuclear Engineers work in the broader nuclear industry, including power plants and safety analysis. While both roles require advanced technical knowledge, Fusion Power specialists are more specialized in plasma physics and fusion reactors, whereas Nuclear Engineers have a wider scope in nuclear systems and safety protocols.

Job description

Summary:

The Senior PS Technology Consultant - Talent Solutions owns the technology that powers the talent lifecycle at National Heritage Academies - from recruiting and hiring through onboarding and performance management. Working within our People Services Team, you'll support and optimize Oracle Fusion HCM - with a focus on Oracle Recruiting - so leaders across more than 100 schools can attract, hire, onboard, and develop the talent our students deserve. This is a senior-level role for an experienced HRIS professional who enjoys untangling complex system challenges, partnering closely with recruiters and hiring leaders, and turning business needs into technology solutions that make hiring faster and easier.

Company Information:

National Heritage Academies (NHA) partners with communities to build and operate public charter schools. Founded in 1995, today NHA serves over 100 schools in nine states, with more than 65,000 students in kindergarten through 12th grade. Our schools are designed to eliminate the achievement gap and provide school choice to families so their children are prepared for success in college, career, and life. A majority of our schools consistently outperform their local district on the state test. According to the Center for Research on Education Outcomes at Stanford University, NHA is a leading performer among charter schools and management organizations, outperforming both conventional district schools and other charter school operators. In addition, according to our employee survey, over 90% of respondents agree that the work they do is meaningful to them. Join our team.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the implementation, configuration, and maintenance of talent acquisition systems and technologies, primarily Oracle Fusion HCM (Oracle Recruiting).
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for recruiting system-related issues, overseeing complex issue resolution and providing strategic recommendations to improve hiring processes and candidate experience.
  • Own and lead full project lifecycles, including requirements gathering, development, testing, implementation, and documentation.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to PS Technology Consultants, sharing best practices and supporting their growth.
  • Configure, test, and support system updates and enhancements across job requisitions, career sites, interviews, offers, onboarding, and performance management, including Oracle quarterly release updates.
  • Partner with the Talent Solutions team to streamline requisition, interview, offer, and onboarding workflows.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve data discrepancies; generate and analyze recruiting reports, including pipeline, hiring trend, and compliance reporting, and develop custom reports and queries for stakeholders.
  • Partner with the internal Information Technology team on integrations, the internal CRM Dynamics team on modules within coverage areas, and Change Management on large-scale projects.
  • Support business teams to comply with federal, state, and local regulations; maintain confidentiality of all people and company data.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in business or technology or equivalent experience required.
  • Extensive experience in HRIS processing and technology (minimum 5+ years); Oracle Fusion HCM experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting recruiting or talent acquisition systems preferred; Oracle Certification or similar preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects and mentor others.
  • Experience with Oracle reporting tools (OTBI, BI Publisher) a plus.
  • Strong problem-solving skills: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Strong customer service, written/verbal communication, and interpersonal skills; ability to build strong cross-functional relationships.
  • Advanced project management skills and experience with Microsoft Office programs.

What We Offer:

  • Comprehensive benefits, including medical, dental, and vision coverage and a retirement savings plan.
  • Professional development and growth opportunities, including the chance to deepen your Oracle Fusion HCM expertise.
  • A mission you can see: your work supports the teachers and staff serving more than 65,000 students.

This is an in-person position at our NHA Service Center located at 3850 Broadmoor Ave, Grand Rapids, MI 49512, with the opportunity for one remote day each week.

National Heritage Academies is an equal-opportunity employer.
