Job Summary:
The Department of Chemistry at Furman University invites applications to fill a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor in the area of inorganic chemistry to begin in August 2027. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in inorganic chemistry or a closely related field with postdoctoral experience strongly preferred. Successful candidates are expected to excel in teaching at the undergraduate level, mentor and advise students, and conduct original research leading to peer-reviewed publications or other significant scholarly contributions to the discipline. The ideal candidate will also demonstrate the ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds and contribute to Furman's commitment to expanding access and opportunity within our rich learning culture. Primary teaching responsibilities will be inorganic and general chemistry courses, with additional opportunities to teach advanced topics in the area of research specialization, lab-centered major's courses, and chemistry for non-majors. The standard teaching load is 4-5 courses per academic year. Tenure-track faculty normally devote their summers to research with students and do not teach.
Job Description:
The Department of Chemistry at Furman University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor. A Ph.D. in inorganic chemistry or a related discipline is required by August 1, 2027; Prior university-level teaching experience and post-doctoral experience are highly preferred but not required.
The successful candidate will join a vibrant and supportive department of 13 research active faculty. Candidates must demonstrate commitment to teaching, service, and scholarship. Furman has a strong history of excellent teaching and mentoring, including a vigorous year-round research program with undergraduate students. Therefore, a faculty member is expected to establish a nationally competitive undergraduate research program. In support of this program, the department maintains state-of-the-art facilities with exceptional instrument holdings, including those in support of inorganic synthetic, photophysics, and materials research, among others. Furman offers competitive start-up funds, individual research space, and summer support.
