Intern, Development (Fundraising)

The Development Intern will support Elevate's Development team, which oversees all fundraising efforts for the organization including funder relations, prospecting, grant writing, and grants management. The Development team works with all departments and programs across the organization; as such, this position offers an opportunity to learn about the many aspects of nonprofit operations.

The Development Intern will report to the Operations Specialist, Development. The position is based in Chicago, Illinois and is remote with occasional in-person activities.

Responsibilities
  • Support writing and editing of grant materials including LOIs, proposals, and reports.
  • Research fundraising best practices and present findings.
  • Support creation of Elevate materials to present to funders.
  • Complete maintenance improvements of Development team data.
  • Participate in learning activities across the organization.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
  • In pursuit of an undergraduate or graduate degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, Finance, Business Administration, Environmental Studies, or a similar field.
  • Desire to learn about philanthropy, grant writing, fundraising/development, and nonprofit operations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Organizational and time management skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a virtual setting.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Outlook, Teams, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

Terms of Service

Internships at Elevate are paid positions for current college or graduate students or recent college graduates. The usual time commitment is ten (10) weeks, 20-25 hours/week, but there is some flexibility with this internship. The Development Intern is paid $20/hour.
