About the Role

Altera is seeking a Functional Safety Manager to lead and oversee the functional safety activities across various semiconductor and IP development projects for Avionics, Automotive, Industrial market segment. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring process and product compliance with ISO 26262, IEC 61508, and other relevant safety standards such as DO-254/DO-178, collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders to collate various artifacts for safety packages and audit the processes to demonstrate systematic capability throughout the safety lifecycle. As a technical leader in management of functional safety and processes, you will guide engineering teams toward the successful delivery of safety rated devices, tools, IPs for our customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead functional safety activities across various programs projects, ensuring adherence to ISO 26262 and related standards.

  • Develop, maintain, and implement the functional safety plan, tailoring it to the specific needs of each project.

  • Collate safety evidence from various stakeholders to build the safety package.

  • Manage safety assessments, including FMEDA, FTA, DFA, and Safety Case documentation, ensuring all deliverables are completed in compliance with safety standards.

  • Train and mentor engineering teams on safety standards, processes, and best practices.

  • Serve as a liaison between internal teams, customers, and external safety certification bodies.

  • Support continuous improvement efforts to refine safety processes and tools across the organization.

  • Schedule and conduct confirmation reviews as defined within the safety plan, ensuring compliance with milestones and objectives.

  • Manage third-party audits and assessments, coordinating with external evaluators and stakeholders.

  • Evaluate customer safety systems and recommend appropriate safety architecture for projects.

  • Act as the gatekeeper for each phase of the safety lifecycle, ensuring that all safety-related work products meet quality and compliance requirements.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Provide customer-driven feedback into Altera's FPGA product safety roadmaps

  • Collaborate with internal safety, engineering, and product stakeholders

  • Collate safety evidence from various stakeholders to build the safety data package for customers and certification bodies

Salary Range

The pay range below is for Bay Area California only. Actual salary may vary based ona number offactors including job location, job-related knowledge, skills, experiences,trainings, etc. We also offer incentive opportunities that reward employees based on individual and company performance.

$149,100 - $215,900USD

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.

  • 8+ years of experience in functional safety within the semiconductor industry, with a strong focus on ISO 26262 or IEC61508 and safety-critical applications.

  • Hands-on experience with creating safety documents such as Safety Cases, Safety Management Plans, Safety Manuals.

  • Proven leadership in managing cross-functional teams and safety-critical projects.

  • Experience with ISO 26262 Certification is preferred.

  • Familiarity with automotive quality standards such as IATF 16949, VDA 6.3, and related processes is a plus.

  • Familiarity with cybersecurity standards (ISO 21434, IEC62443) is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with DO-254 or MILSTD safety processes.

  • Background in FPGA/ASIC/SoC architecture and verification.

  • Familiarity with AS9100 QMS.

  • Safety certifications (FSCP, TUV FS Professional).
