Job Summary
The Senior Functional Analyst interprets and contextualizes business strategy into operational execution. This role gathers key artifacts such as business and value stream maps to bridge the gap between strategy and execution, helping streamline and rationalize infrastructure enablement processes.
In addition to developing deliverables, views, and viewpoints, the Senior Functional Analyst synthesizes work across multiple disciplines including strategy development, business analysis, process management, operations, and systems analysis.
This role leads efforts to achieve lean, enterprise-level performance within Texas Pipe & Supply (TPS) and its family of companies, supporting the integration and standardization of processes across the organization.
The position also functions as a strategic business analyst with expertise in AI-powered workflow design, prompt engineering, and conversational system architecture. This includes translating complex business requirements into structured AI chat flows, designing multi-step prompt frameworks, and optimizing large language model (LLM) interactions for accuracy, consistency, and scalability.
Duties / Responsibilities
  • Align best practices to support a lean enterprise vision and standardized operating model across the organization.
    • Focus on process control, including monitoring, stabilizing, and continuously improving processes for value creation.
    • Capture relationships among roles, capabilities, business units, and subunits, including internal and external management structures.
    • Define shared enterprise data and the relationships between datasets.
  • Partner with end users to understand business needs and apply in-house strategies and supporting solutions.
    • Support utilization of ERP systems to establish a "single version of the truth."
    • Develop true value stream maps.
    • Identify and resolve bottlenecks that slow information flow.
    • Identify and address capacity constraints.
    • Reduce waste and ensure value-added processes to improve profitability and competitiveness.
  • Collaborate with IS Development teams on priorities and project execution.
    • Support backlog management and capacity utilization of resources.
    • Optimize and standardize project delivery processes, including non-development demand.
    • Assist and guide development teams in evaluating and improving solutions and tools.
    • Review project requirements, assign resources, and align roles to ensure successful completion.
    • Document processes and systems to ensure repeatability and consistency.
  • Support the Enterprise Solutions Director in developing strategic business requirements.
    • Align strategic needs with appropriate solutions.
    • Implement, review, and standardize desired processes and information flows.
  • Support organizational alignment, including defining roles, responsibilities, training, and communication methods to improve speed to customer.
  • Help align enterprise AI solutions and develop secure AI prompt frameworks to support data governance.
    • Design complex workflows and LLM-based solutions.
    • Ensure AI solutions align with security, governance, and organizational standards.
  • Support process control initiatives focused on continuous improvement and value creation.
  • Develop performance metrics and KPIs focused on measurable outcomes, improvement tracking, and team recognition.
  • Capture tactical and strategic enterprise goals and align them with governance metrics.
  • Define enterprise-wide data structures and relationships.

Skills / Abilities
  • Working knowledge of distribution and manufacturing ERP systems and end-to-end operational workflows (from order entry through delivery and all intermediate processes).
  • Multi-site leadership experience across multiple companies, including global or multi-location environments.
  • Strong ability to map end-to-end automation workflows, identify inefficiencies, and implement AI-driven solutions aligned with business goals.
  • Experience collaborating cross-functionally to define requirements, use cases, and drive AI adoption across business units, including data governance, workflow design, security, maintenance, and functionality.
  • Self-starter with strong urgency, able to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Experience with software implementation, integration, and ongoing system support.

Education and Experience
  • 10+ years of experience in process improvement.
  • Experience in prompt engineering, including system prompts, few-shot examples, chain-of-thought design, and structured output formatting.
  • Workflow automation experience, including AI-integrated process mapping and tool orchestration (e.g., Zapier, Make, n8n).
  • Requirements gathering experience, translating business needs into AI use case specifications.
  • Conversational design experience, including chat flow logic, fallback handling, and intent mapping.
  • Familiarity with LLM platforms such as ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini, including API integration basics.
  • Data and analytics experience, including AI output evaluation, prompt iteration, and A/B testing responses.
  • Strong stakeholder communication skills, bridging technical AI teams and non-technical users.
  • Strong documentation skills, including SOPs, prompt libraries, and workflow playbooks.
  • Working knowledge of Progress 4GL libraries, OpenEdge Studio, Progress AppServer, GUI tools for web services, MS SQL queries, and Windows OS.
  • Background in software development, technical support, or systems integration roles.
  • Experience with multi-site management and process implementation.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems, business platforms, and enterprise solution support.
