Weekend Overnight Direct Support Counselor

Camp Cheerful – Strongsville, OH

Join the team at Achievement Centers for Children's Camp Cheerful, where you'll help create unforgettable experiences for teens and adults with disabilities in a safe, engaging, and supportive overnight camp environment.

Located on 52 beautiful acres within the Cleveland Metroparks, Camp Cheerful offers hiking, arts and crafts, sports, music, campfires, nature activities, and countless opportunities for campers to build friendships and confidence.


As a Weekend Overnight Direct Support Counselor, you will provide direct care and support to campers ages 16 and older during our Weekend Respite Program. You'll encourage participation in camp activities, assist with daily living needs, and help create a positive, inclusive experience for every camper.


Compensation: $350 per weekend Schedule: Friday 5:30 p.m. through Sunday 12:00 p.m. (overnight stay required) Frequency: Approximately two weekends per month


What You Will Do

  • Provide direct supervision and support for campers with intellectual, developmental, physical, and neurological disabilities
  • Assist campers with personal care needs, including toileting, dressing, changing, hygiene, and mobility assistance
  • Encourage and participate in recreational activities including hiking, crafts, sports, music, games, campfires, and other camp programs
  • Foster a safe, positive, and inclusive environment where campers can build confidence and friendships
  • Maintain appropriate camper supervision while ensuring health and safety at all times
  • Work collaboratively with fellow counselors and camp leadership to meet each camper's individual needs
  • Maintain a typical counselor-to-camper ratio of 1:3

Preferred

  • Previous camp experience
  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities
  • Experience providing personal care
  • Students pursuing degrees in education, social work, psychology, nursing, therapeutic recreation, or related human services fields are encouraged to apply
  • Internship opportunities may be available if approved by your college or university

Training Provided

  • CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification
  • Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) Certification
  • Comprehensive orientation and ongoing training related to camper care and safety
