Job description

WRS has an immediate opening foran experienced Asphalt Sales & Estimating. Our paving and construction teams take pride in delivering high-quality asphalt work. This role is focused on growing our asphalt business - identifying new customers, building lasting relationships, and delivering accurate, competitive bids and proposals - while applying working estimating knowledge to keep sold work profitable and well-scoped for our crews.

About WRS

WRS offers a wide range of services in a number of industries. Regardless of the position you're applying for, our work is always centered on people, problem-solving, and integrity.

What do we mean by that? We do the right thing and get along well with others. Our team members are experts in their respective fields. We think outside the box, and we're good at it. And we've been doing this for a long time: we're proud to be our communities' trusted problem-solvers since 1982.

Are You a Good Fit?

Our ideal candidate is innovative, relational, and honest.

If you live for those "aha!" moments, you thrive in team settings, and you hold yourself to a high standard of work and ethics - we have a feeling you'll like it here.

Your Responsibilities

  • Proactively identify, pursue, and secure new asphalt paving, sealcoating, and related construction business across WRS's Washington and Idaho markets.
  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with general contractors, municipalities, property managers, developers, and commercial and residential customers to generate a steady pipeline of leads and repeat business.
  • Conduct on-site visits to evaluate scope of work, take field measurements, and identify factors affecting price and schedule, such as pavement condition, drainage, access, and subgrade.
  • Prepare accurate, competitive estimates, take-offs, and bid proposals based on project specifications, site conditions, and current material and production costs.
  • Present bid proposals, pricing, and schedules to customers, and negotiate contract terms while protecting company margin and capacity.
  • Partner with estimating, operations, and paving crews to ensure sold work is scoped accurately and scheduled to meet customer expectations.
  • Maintain an accurate, up-to-date sales pipeline, quote log, and forecast using the company's CRM and estimating software (e.g., HeavyBid, HCSS, Bluebeam).
  • Track market trends, competitor activity, and material pricing to price work competitively and protect profitability.
  • Represent WRS at bid openings, pre-bid meetings, industry trade shows, and community and networking events.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to customer questions and concerns, escalating issues as needed.
  • Meet or exceed assigned individual sales targets and quotas.

Your Experience & Qualifications

  • 2+ years of outside sales, business development, or estimating experience in asphalt paving, construction materials, or the building/construction industry; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Working knowledge of asphalt paving methods, materials, and production rates sufficient to prepare accurate estimates and bids.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and grade stakes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with CRM and bid/estimating software (e.g., HeavyBid, HCSS, Bluebeam) preferred.
  • Strong negotiation, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Self-motivated and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple bids and customer relationships independently.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record; frequent local and regional travel to job sites, client meetings, and pre-bid conferences is required.

Your Benefits & Compensation

When we say that we love investing in our team, we mean it.

For full-time employees, WRS offers a full benefits package that includes:

  • Full Dental coverage
  • Voluntary Vision
  • Generous PTO, based on hours worked

  • 401k (eligible after 1 year)
