Job description

Description:

RAM Aerospace is a leader in aerospace innovation, powering flight and space exploration with precision solenoids, valves, actuators, and position sensing solutions. Since 1975, we've supported missions like the Space Shuttle and continue to deliver mission-critical components for commercial, defense, and satellite systems. Headquartered in St. George, Utah, our advanced manufacturing facility produces the precision solenoids, valves, and actuators that aerospace programs worldwide depend on. Our Valencia facility extends that capability with specialized manufacturing of LVDTs and RVDTs, critical position sensing devices used across a broad range of aerospace and defense applications. As one of Southern Utah's largest employers, we drive economic growth and offer high-skilled careers in engineering and manufacturing. From both facilities, we build the future of aerospace—on time, with excellence, and as a team. Join us to work on groundbreaking technology and help shape the future of flight and space exploration. Your career takes off here!

As a Quality Control Shop Inspector at RAM, you ensure the quality and precision of aerospace components through detailed visual, dimensional, and mechanical inspections. Using tools like CMM machines and precision handheld instruments, you verify that parts meet strict specifications at every stage—from first article to final test. Your work helps maintain the safety, reliability, and performance of mission-critical systems in aviation, space, and defense. If you have a meticulous eye for detail, a deep understanding of GD&T, and the confidence to halt production if a part isn't perfect, we want you on our team.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Precision Measurement & Inspection: Inspect, test, and measure manufactured products for strict conformance to requirements. You will use a variety of precision handheld inspection tools (calipers, micrometers, drop gauges) and set/monitor automated measuring machines (CMMs).
  • Blueprint & GD&T Analysis: Analyze and interpret complex aerospace blueprints, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) data, and manuals to determine the correct specifications, inspection procedures, and certification methods required for each part.
  • Defect Identification & Resolution: Act as the gatekeeper of quality. You will reject products, materials, or equipment not meeting requirements, discuss these inspection results with production teams, and recommend necessary corrective actions.
  • Documentation & Traceability: Maintain highly accurate documentation. You will write detailed inspection reports, record specific test data (dimensions, weights, temperatures), and properly mark physical items with their grade and acceptance/rejection status.
  • Visual & Functional Verification: Compare colors, shapes, textures, or grades of products against standard templates. You will also read equipment dials and meters to verify processing equipment is functioning at specified levels, occasionally cleaning or adjusting equipment to correct found defects.
Requirements:
  • Legal: Must be able to pass a comprehensive criminal background check and drug screening.
  • ITAR: Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum (due to ITAR requirements).
  • Education & Experience: High School Diploma or GED required. Previous experience in quality control inspection, machining, or precision manufacturing is highly preferred.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of GD&T, blueprint reading, and precision measurement tools. Familiarity with ISO 9001/AS9100 standards, statistical process control (SPC), and Kaizen principles is preferred.
  • Computer Skills: Must be proficient in operating a computer and using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook to maintain quality records and write reports.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent organizational skills with the ability to maintain extreme attention to detail while remaining efficient. You must be able to multi-task with limited supervision, handle frequent interruptions, and communicate effectively and diplomatically with the machine shop.
  • Physical Demands: Must be able to sit and stand constantly throughout the shift. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs safely. Must possess excellent manual dexterity, handling and fingering small parts and precision tools constantly.
