Data Engineering Intern - Summer 2027
Program Duration: End of May - Early August
Location: Pella, IA (on-site) or Urbandale, IA (on-site)
Pella Corporation is seeking motivated undergraduate students for our Data Engineer Internship in Pella, Iowa.
Data engineering is at the foundation of modern analytics, reporting, automation, and AI-driven solutions. At Pella, we're building smarter, data-driven systems that help improve decision-making, enhance business processes, and drive innovation across the organization.
This internship provides hands-on experience working with enterprise data platforms, modern cloud technologies, and experienced data professionals. Interns gain practical experience delivering data solutions while building technical and professional skills that prepare them for future careers in data engineering, analytics, and technology.

Responsibilities
As a Data Engineer Intern, you will support Pella's data and analytics initiatives through project work and collaboration with experienced data professionals. You'll gain exposure to modern data engineering practices while contributing to solutions that support business decision-making.
Responsibilities are similar to what we expect of entry-level data professionals who join Pella after graduation.
As a Data Engineer Intern, you may:
  • Work as part of a Scrum team to develop and support data engineering solutions
  • Write PySpark notebooks and SQL queries to extract, transform, and load (ETL) data within Azure Databricks
  • Create and orchestrate data jobs to support data integration, reporting, and data quality initiatives
  • Support enterprise data platforms and tools including Azure Databricks, Azure Synapse, Azure Logic Apps, Informatica, Power BI, REST APIs, and SQL Server databases
  • Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver data-driven solutions
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies including standups, sprint planning, and retrospectives
  • Contribute to an individual internship project and collaborate with fellow interns on a cross-functional project focused on improving a business process or solution

Qualifications
Qualifications
  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Data Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science & Analytics, Software Engineering or a related field
  • Strong academic standing
  • Basic knowledge of version control tools such as Git and GitHub
  • Strong foundation in Python, SQL, or related programming languages
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Curiosity, initiative, and a willingness to learn new technologies and technical concepts

Preferred Qualifications
  • Exposure to cloud technologies, databases, or data engineering concepts through coursework, projects, or previous experience
  • Familiarity with data visualization, reporting, or analytics tools
  • Experience working on team-based technical projects through coursework, extracurricular activities, research, or internships
  • Hands-on experience using Claude Code or a similar LLM agent to help define tasks and implement solutions.

Compensation: The starting pay rate for this position is $29.00 per hour. Compensation for this role is established through Pella Corporation's internship program. Eligible participants may receive transition assistance in accordance with company policies and program guidelines.
