Data Engineer – Golden Valley, MN

We have an opportunity for a Data Engineer to join our Enterprise IT Data & Analytics team in Golden Valley, MN. In this role, you will be instrumental in developing and maintaining our data & analytics platforms, which is crucial for driving insights and strategic decisions across the company. These platforms are both on-premises (SQL Server) and cloud-based (Azure, Microsoft Fabric) and source data from several ERP platforms and produce output to financial (TM1, Onestream, etc.) and analytics platforms (PowerBI, Cognos, etc.)

You will:

  • Design, develop, and maintain Azure Data Factory pipelines to facilitate efficient data extraction, loading, and Transformation (ELT/ETL) processes as well as maintain SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) packages.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather business requirements and translate them into technical specifications for data integration and data platform solutions.
  • Implement and manage ETL & ELT processes, ensuring data accuracy and integrity.
  • Create and optimize complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and functions to extract, load and transform data from various data input sources and output tools (TM1, PowerBI, etc.).
  • Perform data profiling and analysis to identify data quality issues and propose appropriate solutions.
  • Implement data cleansing, transformation, and validation rules to ensure the accuracy and consistency of data.
  • Collaborate with business analysts and ensure seamless data flow and integration across various platforms.
  • Monitor and optimize the performance of SQL queries, ELT/ETL processes, and database systems to ensure efficient data processing and system reliability.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve data-related issues, including data integration failures, data quality problems, and performance bottlenecks.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends and best practices in data engineering, data integration, analytics and AI technologies.

Key Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Finance, or a related field. Equivalent work experience may be considered.
  • 3+ years of experience in data warehouse development.
  • Experience with Azure Data Factory for orchestrating and automating data movement and transformation.
  • Proficiency in SQL programming, including complex query optimization, stored procedures, and functions.
  • Solid understanding of data modeling concepts and experience in designing and implementing database schemas.
  • Familiarity with data profiling and quality assurance techniques.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based data warehousing services and integration with Azure cloud services.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to identify data-related issues and propose effective solutions.
  • Experience with performance tuning and optimization of SQL queries, ELT/ETL processes, and database systems.
  • Experience using data in a business/finance role for modeling or advanced analytics preferred.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Adaptability to changing business requirements and technology landscapes.
  • Certifications in Microsoft SQL Server and Azure Data Factory are a plus.

Compensation:

For this full-time position working at this location, the anticipated annualized base pay range will be from $95500 - $177300 / year. At Pentair, it is not typical for an individual to be hired near the bottom or top of the pay range. Pentair considers various factors in determining actual compensation for this position at the expected location. Actual compensation will be commensurate with demonstrable level of experience and training, pertinent education including licensure and certifications, work location, and other relevant business or organizational needs. This position may be eligible for other forms of compensation such as an annual incentive bonus and long-term incentives.
