Job description

Primus Aerospace is a leading manufacturing partner to aerospace, defense, and space OEMs, Primes, and Tier I suppliers. We specialize in producing high-tolerance, complex geometry components machined from standard and exotic metals. Our team supports major aerospace manufacturers—including Boeing, Lockheed Martin, and Northrop Grumman—by delivering precision parts for mission-critical civilian and defense programs.

The CNC Maintenance Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machinery and associated plant equipment to ensure maximum uptime and operational efficiency. The role requires a blend of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic expertise.

Job Summary

The CNC Maintenance Technician's primary responsibility is to minimize machine downtime by performing preventative and corrective maintenance on all CNC equipment (lathes, mills, grinders, etc.) and supporting facility maintenance. This role requires the ability to diagnose complex issues using technical manuals and diagnostic tools and implement effective, lasting repairs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preventative Maintenance: Conduct routine inspections and perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM) on machinery to prevent failures before they occur. Maintain accurate maintenance logs and service records.
  • Troubleshooting and Repair: Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems issues.
  • Installation and Calibration: Assist with the installation, relocation, leveling, and alignment of new and existing machinery. Perform calibrations to ensure machines operate to exact specifications and tolerances.
  • Documentation and Inventory: Read and interpret technical manuals, electrical schematics, blueprints, and wiring diagrams. Monitor and maintain spare parts inventory, placing orders as needed.
  • Safety and Compliance: Adhere to all safety procedures and regulations, including Lockout/Tagout, personal protective equipment (PPE) protocols, and electrical safety standards.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the production and engineering teams to prioritize repairs, improve processes, and provide technical support or training to machine operators as needed.
  • General Facility Maintenance: Perform general building and grounds maintenance as required.
  • Supporting lean manufacturing projects as needed.

Qualifications and Skills

  • 5+ years of experience in CNC machine maintenance within a manufacturing or machine shop environment is typically required.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Proficiency with electrical test equipment (e.g., multimeters) and experience working with 480V three-phase power, VFDs, and PLCs.
  • Working knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Familiarity with various machine tool controls (Fanuc, Haas, Okuma, etc.).
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents, schematics, and blueprints.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and communication skills.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift heavy objects, stand for long periods, and work in various physical conditions (crouching, climbing, etc.).
  • Certifications: High school diploma or GED required; technical training or certification in industrial maintenance, mechanics, or mechatronics is a significant plus.

We offer comprehensive benefits for full-time employees including:

  • PTO
  • 10 paid holidays
  • Medical, Dental, Vision, Short- and Long-term disability insurance
  • 401K match
  • Long and short-term incentive plans
  • Benefits start 1st of the month after date of hire

To adhere to U.S. Government international trade regulations, applicant must be a U.S. Citizen.
