Responsibilities
I. JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Under the direct supervision of the Nurse Manager, cleans, prepares, assembles, sterilizes, and distributes surgical instruments and specific medical equipment according to established procedures and techniques.
• Inventories and restocks medical supplies on various patient care units.
II. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
• Essential: standing, walking, kneeling, twisting body, finger dexterity, seeing,hearing, speaking, stooping/bending, lifting usual weight of 15 pounds up to maximum of 50 pounds; pushing/pulling maximum weight of 50 pounds of force; carrying maximum weight of 50 pounds, gripping of an object for prolonged periods.
• Occasional: sitting, kneeling, climbing stairs, walking on uneven ground, squatting, reaching at and below shoulder level.
• Operates all sterilizers, computers, printers, all washers, copier, fax, steam and air gun.
III. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Subjected to heat while wearing protective uniform and working in decontaminator.
• Subjected to noise/vibration from sterilizers and equipment.
• Works with operating equipment.
• Exposure to the risk of blood borne diseases, infectious and disease-bearing specimens; infectious and contagious diseases; hazards of handling diseased organs and tissue; odorous chemicals and gases; low level radiation; and bio-hazardous substances.
IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:
• High school diploma or equivalent education.
• Current Registered Central Supply Technician certification highly preferred
B. EXPERIENCE:
• One (1) year experience in an acute care or outpatient setting.
• Experience to demonstrate:
o Ability to communicate effectively in English both orally and in writing.
o Familiarity with medical supplies and instrumentation in an acute care setting preferred.
o Knowledge of automated systems preferred.
