Job description

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
• Follow all Hanwha Philly Shipyard rules and regulations
• Selects cables, ropes, pulleys, winches, shackles, clamping devices, blocks, synthetic slings and sheaves, according to weight and size of load to be moved
• Must have knowledge of various size wire ropes breaking strengths
• Attaches pulley and blocks to fixed overhead structures such as beams, ceilings, and gin pole booms with bolts and clamps
• Attaches load with grappling devices such as loops, wires, ropes, and chains to crane hook
• Gives directions to Overhead Crane Operator or Hoisting Engineer engaged in hoisting and moving loads to ensure safety of workers and material handled
• Sets up, braces, and rigs hoisting equipment
• Use proper hand signals to signal crane operators and radio communication with crane operators
• Visually inspect all rigging gear such as wire rope, shackles synthetic slings, chain hoist, come-alongs, hooks, and all other rigging gear to insure that safety is always first
• Perform other related duties as required and assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILTY
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Environmental exposures are similar to those found in most heavy industrial settings and may include noise, heat, cold, vibration, dust, fumes and smoke. Work may be carried on indoors or outdoors, and may involve exposure to inclement weather conditions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. A range of motion sufficient to perform general lifting, carrying, bending, climbing, working at heights, extended walking or standing, etc. is required. POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is an on-site, full-time, safety-sensitive position. Standard days and hours of work vary by department, days and hours determined by department schedules.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPEREIENCE
• Minimum High School or GED Diploma
• Minimum 3 years structural steel rigging or erecting
• Fundamentals of rigging, basic working knowledge of crane and rigging gear
• High Reach Forklift experience
• Knowledge of the proper hand and radio signals for all cranes
• Knowledge of tying knots
• Knowledge of proper hand signals to signal crane operators and radio communication with crane operators
• Knowledge of how to visually inspect all rigging gear such as wire rope, shackles synthetic slings, chain hoist, come-alongs, hooks, and all other rigging gear to ensure that safety is always first
• Must have knowledge of various size wire ropes’ breaking strengths
• Some training may be available to keep educated on new OSHA or other safety guidelines and new industry developments
