The City of Waco is seeking a knowledgeable WIC Breastfeeding Coordinator to join our team. This role provides counseling and breastfeeding counseling for the Public Health District (PHD). This role will oversee clinic staff in completing and maintaining daily clinic responsibilities as they relate to breastfeeding services. If breastfeeding services are your passion, apply today!

Required:
  • Bachelor's Degree in nutrition or Dietetics, examples include Nutritional Science, Community Nutrition, Clinical Nutrition, Public Health Nutrition; or Licensed Vocational Nurse or Registered Nurse with an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nursing and 1 year in public health nutrition programs.
  • Bachelor's Degree in other fields may be considered with a minimum of 12 Semester Hours of Food and Nutrition and 6 hours of science and 1 year in public health nutrition programs.
  • International Board - Certified Lactation Consultant Certification (IBCLC).
  • Valid Texas Driver's License

Position Overview:
Under basic supervision, monitors daily performance and workflow of clinic, reviews applications and certifies applicants for WIC eligibility; provides counseling and breastfeeding counseling, lactation management, education and assessment for nursing mothers-infant dyads, non-breastfeeding infants, children, and pregnant, postpartum, and breastfeeding women clients for the Public Health District (PHD). Oversees clinic staff in completing and maintaining daily clinic responsibilities as they relate to breastfeeding services.
Essential Functions:
  • Provides direct client care for PHD clients, including interviewing and assessing nutritional status to determine client's WIC eligibility and nutrition care plan; performs anthropometric and biochemical measurements; provides nutrition education and outreach programs and works with community to increase public awareness of proper nutrition; provides information, counseling, and medical case management according to specific program and physician guidelines.
  • Interviews residents and reviews documentation to determine client's WIC program eligibility; performs basic physical status checks; provides nutrition assessments and education and maintain records. Interprets policy.
  • Provides lactation assessment, counseling, and management for high-risk breastfeeding WIC participants and fulfills all state mandated Breastfeeding Coordinator duties.
  • Develops and implements curriculum and procedures for all aspects of breastfeeding training, education, and documentation for the WIC program. This includes the Breastfeeding portion of the Annual Nutrition Education/Breastfeeding Plan. Monitors breastfeeding supplies and inventory management to maintain appropriate inventories.
  • Coordinates the Breastfeeding Peer Counselor program and mentors Breastfeeding Peer Counselors.
  • Assists with staff performance reviews for Breastfeeding Peer Counselors by providing feedback based on training and observation to supervisors.
  • Develops Breastfeeding Peer Counselor support rotation schedules, including after-hours phone contact and support services.
  • Promotes and supports breastfeeding in the community by networking with and providing outreach to other health professionals, community organizations and stakeholders to inform them of WIC breastfeeding resources.
  • Monitors and assists with Teletask functions.
  • Operates a City vehicle to travel to clinics, community sites, outreach locations, and partner agencies to provide administrative support for PHD operations and client services.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
  • Supports the relationship between the City of Waco and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with residents, visitors, and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information
